Ecological Consultant

Full time, permanent, Leeds

The role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Ecological Consultant to join our small but dynamic team in Leeds. Working at consultant level for Thomson Ecology, you will have the opportunity to utilise and build upon your existing field skills and surveying experience, already gained from working a few seasons within the ecology sector, ideally within a commercial consultancy.  

You will have the confidence to undertake a variety of site and office based tasks, including undertaking protected species surveys, desk studies and phase 1 habitat assessments with minimal supervision.  You will produce high quality work, on time and within budget and be prepared to step up and manage small to medium sized projects.  As with all consultancy work, you will need to be a professional with the ability to communicate effectively and to maintain positive client relationships.

Successful candidates will

  • have proven, previous experience in a similar role, ideally within a commercial consultancy
  • have a degree or postgraduate degree in ecology or a closely related subject
  • have field skills in one or more specialist areas
  • hold a protected species licence, or be able to demonstrate progress towards obtaining a licence, along with relevant survey experience
  • have knowledge of ecology, legislation, and survey techniques and an enthusiasm for keeping up to date with new technologies and best practice guidelines
  • be an excellent communicator with the ability to write clear, concise reports
  • hold full membership of CIEEM (or to have eligibility if not currently held)
  • have a full UK driving licence and use of a car
  • have a positive outlook and a strong desire to succeed.

Ideally, the successful candidate will also

  • have a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card
  • have a Personal Track Safety (PTS) certificate
  • hold First aid at work certification.
