Spend 16 weeks training with Ambios in Spring 2026 and step confidently into a career supporting nature recovery.
Join us for an immersive learning journey where you’ll deepen your understanding of the natural world and build the practical skills, knowledge and confidence needed for your future dream role working for nature’s recovery. You’ll be based on our wildlife-friendly farm and rewilding site on the Sharpham Estate in South Devon. Here, your training is woven directly into Ambios’ ongoing nature recovery work, giving you invaluable first-hand experience and a strong foundation for a career working for wildlife.
Through a blend of workshops, field experiences, presentations, practical sessions and hands-on training, you’ll explore a wide range of topics, including:
- Foundations of ecology and nature recovery - Explore ecological principles, the state of UK nature and land management approaches for nature recovery.
- Wildlife identification skills and knowledge - Enhance your wildlife identification skills for plants, birds, insects, bats and mammals, transforming you into a confident and knowledgeable naturalist.
- Survey & monitoring: applied field skills – Build experience using GIS, GPS, bat-detecting equipment and camera traps. This traineeship is timed to coincide with the main ecological survey season, giving you access to the best possible range of learning experiences & opportunities.
- Species reintroductions to support nature recovery - Study responsible species reintroductions with real-world examples from Sharpham and Devon.
- Practical land management - Gain hands-on experience in woodland creation, tree planting, hedge laying, livestock handling, safe tool use, and countryside management.
- Green woodwork & rural crafts - Connect with nature through traditional rural crafts, including spoon carving, charcoal burning, and stool-making workshops.
- Sustainable food production and farming - Join horticulture sessions in our organic vegetable garden. Discover the relationship between nature and farming, wild food foraging, and plant-people connections.
- Personal development and communication - Receive personalised support and coaching sessions to boost your confidence, enhance career prospects and find your direction in nature recovery.
- Public engagement and networking - Engage with our on-site community and collaborate with our partners to gain valuable experiences and expand your personal network, and get involved in our environmental outreach and public engagement activities.
- Field trips - Visit partner rewilding sites, explore different landscapes in the surrounding areas of Devon and learn about their management approaches.
You will also be encouraged to live sustainably during your time with us, helping in our organic garden, farm, and shared community life.
