Progress your career in wildlife conservation by studying our new online MSc in Conservation Leadership, focused on designing and managing impactful conservation projects. Backed by nearly two decades of partnership between UWE Bristol and Bristol Zoological Society, the course draws on proven expertise in wildlife conservation education.

Designed specifically for employability, the course develops leadership capability to address a critical skills gap in the conservation sector.
The course offers bespoke training through modules built around essential conservation leadership skills, shaped by the real needs of conversation leaders and practitioners. You’ll develop expertise in:
- Project management frameworks tailored to wildlife conservation, including planning, adaptation and team leadership.
- Designing, implementing and monitoring impactful conservation and sustainable development projects.
- Financial management for complex conservation projects, including budgeting, forecasting and sustainable funding mechanisms.
- Leading culturally aware initiatives that balance conservation goals with real-world challenges.
- Leadership-level communication skills, including stakeholder management across professional conservation contexts.
Six-month work-based conservation placement
A standout feature of our degree is a six-month work-based placement with an active conservation programme team, where you’ll turn theory into practice while building a professional portfolio. Placements align with your interests and may include community-based conservation, conservation breeding or protected area monitoring and enforcement.
Flexible online study for working professionals
Our MSc Conservation Leadership is offered as a flexible distance learning programme studied online, allowing you to balance study with professional and personal commitments. The course is designed for those with some existing sector experience who want to progress into leadership roles and manage impactful conservation projects.
Reduced fees with flexible learning options
As part of our commitment to widening access to conservation training, fees have been reduced and levelled for UK and international students.
Course fee: £9,100 (UK and international students) - considerably lower than the average UK MSc.
Standalone CPD modules available
All taught modules are also available as standalone online CPD courses, offering flexible professional development with manageable workloads. You can start with CPD and progress to the full MSc if you decide to continue towards a Masters qualification.
