Event: Free Webinar - “Ripples of Change: the altering ecological state of Welsh rivers and lakes”

The Centre for Alternative Technology

Join us online on Wednesday, 8 July 2026 at 7pm as we kick off our new series of FREE online webinars. Dr Jane Fisher will be delving into the changing state of Welsh Freshwater Environments, the factors driving these changes and possible solutions.

Healthy freshwater ecosystems are vital to habitat biodiversity, climate regulation, energy, natural flood prevention, drinking water, and more, but over the last two decades we have seen a rapid change in the ecological condition of Welsh Rivers and Lakes.

In this lecture and Q&A, Dr Jane Fisher will look at the driving causes behind these changes and possible solutions. Examining the relationship between land use change, sewage discharges, invasive species and climate change, and the changing ecology and water quality of our freshwaters. Jane will also consider why lakes and rivers respond differently to management interventions and the reasons why there are still so many unknowns.
