EcologyConservation & Wildlife

Move beyond basic regression and build confidence in analysing complex ecological data in R.

This online course is relevant to ecological researchers, environmental consultants, conservation professionals, and postgraduate students working with counts, proportions, continuous measurements, or repeated observations.

Topics include:

  • Generalised linear models, including Poisson and binomial models.
  • Overdispersion and zero-inflation.
  • Generalised additive models for non-linear relationships.
  • Mixed models, including fixed and random effects.
  • Model checking, residual diagnostics, and comparison using AIC.
  • Analysis of repeated measurements.

Develop practical skills for choosing appropriate models and assessing how well they fit your ecological data.

Prerequisites: a basic understanding of probability and statistical methods, plus some experience fitting models in R.

Study online from the UK, at your own pace during the spring term. Independent study and instructor-supported formats are available.

Instructor: Dr David Fletcher.

Early bird ends 20 December 2026.
