Are you passionate about tackling climate change and driving sustainability? Do you have strong organisational skills and a talent for supporting multiple projects? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Climate Change Project Coordinator.

About Us:

Thanet District Council is committed to addressing climate change through ambitious and impactful initiatives. Our Net Zero Strategy is central to our climate change targets, and we need a dedicated individual to support our mission in creating a sustainable future for our community. As a Climate Change Project Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in helping us achieve net zero emissions by providing crucial support in delivering climate action projects.

Thanet is a great place to live and work...
Our historic seaside towns of Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs and surrounding villages are rich in heritage and opportunity. With 19 miles of stunning coastline, our beautiful Blue Flag beaches, the internationally renowned Turner Contemporary, and the UK’s only Royal Harbour are all just a short train ride from central London thanks to the high-speed rail link. Our proximity to the port of Dover and the Eurotunnel at Folkestone mean Europe is literally on our doorstep too.

All of this, combined with a flexible approach to how we work makes it an exciting time to join Thanet District Council. We have set our sights high. We want our residents to enjoy the highest quality services. We want to ensure that by listening to local people, working in active partnership and doing things in an innovative way, we can accelerate improvement to meet the challenges ahead.

The Role:

As the Climate Change Project Coordinator, you will:

  • Support the Net Zero Strategy and Action Plan: Assist in the implementation and monitoring of climate change projects, ensuring progress toward key objectives.
  • Provide Administrative Support: Organise records, prepare internal meetings, take minutes, and follow up on action items.
  • Coordinate Communication and Outreach: Help develop communication materials such as reports, presentations, and newsletters to raise awareness about climate action. You’ll also engage with stakeholders and coordinate workshops and events.
  • Data Management and Analysis: Collect and analyse environmental data, including carbon emissions and energy usage, and present insights to support decision-making.
  • Resource and Funding Management: Assist in identifying funding opportunities and preparing grant applications to support sustainability initiatives.
  • Stay Informed on Policy and Innovation: Stay up-to-date with relevant climate change policies, regulations, and best practices, and contribute to process improvements.

About You:

We are looking for a proactive and organised individual who can work well in a team and manage multiple priorities effectively. You should have:

  • A solid understanding of administrative processes and report writing.
  • Awareness of environmental sustainability and a passion for climate change.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail when working with data.
  • Experience working on projects and meeting deadlines.
  • A commitment to promoting equality and diversity in the workplace.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in climate change or sustainability work is desirable.
  • Experience in a political or local government environment is a plus.
  • A-Level education or equivalent experience required. A professional qualification in a relevant field or certification in carbon literacy is a bonus.
