The National Bat Monitoring Programme (NBMP) has been running since 1996, making it the longest running multi-species monitoring programme for mammals in the UK. The NBMP currently produces statistically robust population trends for 11 of the UK’s 17 breeding bat species. Since 1996, more than 3,500 volunteers have taken part in our surveys at over 6,800 roost or field sites around the UK. 

We are now looking for an NBMP Surveys and Training Support Officer to join us on a part-time, fixed-term basis for 20 weeks, working 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE). The contract is set to run from the w/c the 10th February 2025 until the w/c 23rd June 2025 including a one month probationary period.

The Role 

As the NBMP Surveys and Training Support Officer, you will support the successful day-to-day running of the NBMP through a range of administration and co-ordination tasks. 

Specifically, you will support training, surveys and reporting activities to enable the smooth running of the programme. 

Working with staff and trainers, you will organise training workshops, update the training schedule and review and update training resources. You will assist in the co-ordination of surveys, support the volunteers taking part and help to implement the volunteer recruitment and development plan. 

Additionally, you will assist with producing and editing the Bat Monitoring e-bulletin and support the production of the NBMP annual report. 

About You 

To be considered as an NBMP Surveys and Training Support Officer, you will need: 

  • Experience of working with volunteers or customers
  • Excellent organisations skills
  • A professional, prompt and sympathetic telephone and email manner
  • Good attention to detail
  • A genuine interest in, and curiosity about, the natural world
