Senior Standard Implementation Officer
Marine Stewardship Council
Are you someone with a marine science background with strong administrative skills looking for a role that will boost your skills in stakeholder engagement and policy development whilst making a difference to the future of our oceans? If so, this could be the role for you!
The Marine Stewardship Council is an exciting, international organisation seeking to end overfishing. The main mechanism for this is through our Fisheries Standard, which is a voluntary set of requirements that fisheries are assessed against by third party organisations, and consumers recognizing and rewarding product from these fisheries through the MSC ecolabel.
We are currently engaged in a project considering some key parts of our Standard, and the way it is implemented across the world. You’d be joining a small team tasked with working across the entire organisation and with external stakeholders in a professional and diverse setting.
Every day is different, and you will learn about fisheries on a global scale and how certification plays a role. You’ll be able to gain an insight into policy development processes and provide research into that as required.
We’re looking for someone with a background in the marine, fisheries or related environmental space with administrative skills combined with technical experience. You’ll be confident in verbal and written communications and be able to engage directly with a diverse set of stakeholders.
You’ll also be able to contribute to data analysis projects and research into policy development processes. We’re looking for someone who works well in a fast paced team setting whilst also being able to work independently as needed.
We look forward to hearing from you!
We’re an international organisation and our employees all demonstrate a level of cultural awareness, and value the diverse views and approaches relevant to the MSC program.
The MSC is committed to flexible working. The successful candidate will need to work from the UK (London) office for a minimum of 50% of their working time each month. The remaining time can be worked from home.
Working at the MSC
The MSC’s vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations. Today, the impacts of overfishing and climate change pose an even greater threat to the ocean and fish stocks. Through our internationally recognised certification and ecolabeling program, well-managed sustainable fisheries are recognised and rewarded throughout the seafood supply chain. Over 700 fisheries around the world, representing 19% of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC program and MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 66 countries. Through partnerships and collective endeavour, we are on a mission to end overfishing.
