Environmental EducationCarbon, Climate & Energy

Contract: One-year (with possibility of extension), 21 hours a week.
Reporting to: Programme Manager

Climate change is the big challenge of this century and young people hold the key to solving it. Climate Ed is an exciting young charity that provides high quality carbon literacy education to children across the UK, and enable them, their families and communities to reduce their carbon emissions.

Climate Ed started as a London-based charity but is now expanding to key regions across the UK. We are looking for someone highly motivated with experience of working with volunteers and schools and excellent networks across the North West region, especially Manchester and/or Liverpool, to establish the programme in the region. This role will work with volunteers, schools, local authorities and others to ensure the successful roll-out of the programme and measurement of results. The successful candidate will need to be within easy access of Manchester or Liverpool.

The role is for 21 hours per week but can be compressed or spread out during the week. This role could grow as the programme matures in the North West, up to 5 days per week depending on the success of the programme and of fundraising locally.

If you are passionate about helping young people understand climate change, address their eco-anxiety and become empowered to take action with their families and communities, we look forward to your application. Climate Ed is committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion among our workforce. We welcome applications from people from all parts of the community, particularly from under-represented groups.

Main responsibilities:

  • Develop relationships with schools, volunteers, local businesses and fundraising bodies within the North West
  • Recruit, train and co-ordinate volunteers to deliver Climate Ed’s in-school workshop programme in primary schools, and offer them support and guidance.
  • Engage schools through promotion of the workshop programme, remotely and in person.
  • Collate student, teacher and volunteer feedback and support the continued development of Climate Ed’s classroom resources.
  • Report progress of the roll-out to the Programme Manager, raising successes, challenges, risks and issues and agreeing actions to resolve problems.
  • Work with Fundraising and Development Manager to raise funds for ongoing programme delivery in this region.
  • Help to promote the programme and charity on the website, social media and other marketing activity by providing programme-related content.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of the North West region and experience within local community networks and schools in Liverpool and/or Manchester.
  • Teaching experience in UK schools or experience of working with children in a school environment.
  • Motivating and managing a team (colleagues, community, volunteers).
  • Gathering and reporting on data.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding.
  • Experience organising programmes of work.
  • Knowledge of climate change, climate science and carbon footprint measurement.

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experience in marketing and promoting extra-curricular activities to schools.
  • Project management experience, developing delivery plans, tracking and reporting on progress.
  • Knowledge of behaviour change as it relates to climate change and promoting sustainable lifestyles.
  • Experience mentoring, training and coaching.
  • Knowledge of the UK school curriculum.
  • Experience designing teaching resources and assessing their effectiveness.

Closing date for applications: 28th March 2025 (midnight)
