About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Ecologist to strengthen Utility Arboriculture business. This role will play part in delivering ecological monitoring and reporting across our service delivery portfolio. The postholder will also contribute to hands-on delivery of utility surveying.
Location: Hybrid – STS office (Wootton Green, MK43), with regular travel across the Home County
delivery areas
Contract: Full-time
Requirements: Full Clean Driving licence. Right to work in the UK.
Salary Range: £30,000 to £38,000 dependent on experience

Responsibilities:
Reporting to: Surveying Manager and Directors
Role specific:
- Lead and support ecological surveys and monitoring across service areas
- Researching the impact of arboriculture and other human activity
- Advising on legal regulations in relation to protected species
- Identifying and recording details of habitats and species
- Producing reports detailing the potential environmental impact of any disruption to the environment and making recommendations on how best to manage it
- Analysing data collected
- Providing advice on environmental legislation
- Preparing reports and recommendations
- Assist with the development of ecology services and their delivery
Company-wide:
- Visiting sites to monitor that all works are carried out as agreed
- Complete all checks on your own PPE and equipment each day
- Complete daily vehicle or equipment checks on any plant you drive or use
- Actively participate in the creation of risk assessments
- Complete activities in accordance with training
- Work safely and maintain awareness of the company’s safety policies and procedures
- Report dangerous occurrences and near misses
- Responsible for assisting the sit set up, respecting boundaries and signage
- Support colleagues, helping whenever it is required
- Be responsible for the safety of your team-mates and others within the site
- Work with other teams or subcontractors in support of the activities
- Participate in briefings, risk assessment and method statement creation
- Liaise and offer support to teams delivering work you have surveyed or visited
- Act as a point of contact for customers
Skills & Certifications:
- Experience in UK protected species
- Experience in invasive species and the treatment of them
- Interest and experience in Arboriculture and Woodland Management advantageous
- Experience producing ecological reports and undertaking project related tasks
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM)or equivalent
- Analytical thinking and reasoning skills
- Good grasp of maths and English
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to use your own initiative.
