Principal/Senior Ecologist

We are looking for a Principal or Senior Ecologist who shares our passion for the environment and renewable energy.

Responsibilities
This role comes at an exciting time when there are two distinct and exciting experiences for the successful candidate. Initially, you will be responsible for support and project management in MacArthur Green’s highly specialised ecology, peat and water quality teams.
As the MacArthur Green transition into SLR progresses later in 2025, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn and develop as part of a busy and collaborative European team that provides expert support and advice on ecology, peat and water quality.
You will deliver projects that have important environmental benefits – such as renewables, natural capital, and grid projects. This role will include:
- Biodiversity Net Gain and work closely with the team to develop this specialism further.
- Designing and managing the delivery of various types of ecological and habitat restoration surveys.
- Specialist field survey work requiring senior input.
- Project management, coordination and delivery of ecology and peat projects.
- Preparation and review of Ecological Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and technical reports.
- Preparing and coordinating tender submissions.
- Line management and leadership.
Qualifications & Experience

- Experience and understanding of the environmental planning system in relation to the production of ecological impact assessments.
- Demonstrable experience and understanding of the European Birds and Habitats Directives and methods for assessments with regards to European Designated sites.
- Good ecological field survey experience.
- Proven people management & mentoring skills with a flexible and proactive approach to work.
- Comprehensive experience of project management and managing a diverse workload.
- Produce and review high quality reports and deliver them to clients on time and to budget.
- Educated to higher degree level in ecology or related subject, or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.
- Good working relationship with regulators and statutory advisors.

Employment Type: Full time, permanent
Salary: from £34,000 dependent on experience
Holidays: 33 days per annum
Employer pension contribution: 5%
This role will be primarily based in our office in the west end of Glasgow, on the banks of the River Kelvin.
