The role

We’re looking for a GIS Technician with a passion for the environment to join our growing GIS team.

This GIS Technician role is designed to allow a professional or graduate with limited previous GIS work experience to support the delivery of day-to-day GIS work:

  • Preparing GIS cartography and data solutions to support our ecological products.
  • Basic CAD handling – editing CAD drawings and import/export of CAD data to/from GIS.
  • Running GIS field data collection – setting up surveys and managing field data based on ArcGIS Online field apps.

Beyond the core role responsibilities, the GIS Technician will get exposure to a range of specialist areas from which they may choose one or more to develop expertise in:

  • Field data collection,
  • Drone surveying,
  • Scripting and automation,
  • 3D modelling

Salary: £26,208 - £28,277 dependent on experience

About you

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline
  • Good understanding of GIS and its applications
  • Good knowledge of operating GIS software (ArcGIS Pro 3.x), AND
  • One years’ relevant experience, OR
  • Demonstrable experience in the use of GIS software for higher education courses (course assignments, final dissertation, etc.)

Desirable

  • ArcGIS Online and associated mobile applications
  • Basic knowledge of CAD editing software (ideally AutoCAD)
  • Basic Python scripting for GIS
  • VBA Scripting
  • Awareness of ecological field survey methods and associated challenges
  • Professional or voluntary work in an environmental consultancy.
