Language Consultants (Forest 500 & Floresta 250)
Global Canopy
Global Canopy is a data-driven not for profit that targets the market forces destroying nature. We are at the heart of tackling the biggest crisis facing the planet as governments, companies and financial institutions start to recognise there is no solution to the climate crisis without a solution to the destruction of nature.
Purpose
This year, Global Canopy will be repeating our Forest 500 and Floresta 250 assessments. The first assesses the companies and financial institutions with the greatest influence on global forest-risk-commodities supply chains; the second assesses the companies and financial institutions with the greatest influence on Brazilian cattle supply chains.
The two reports build off Forest 500 assessments which Global Canopy have undertaken since 2014.
The project assesses each company and financial institution based on key criteria, including the strength of their deforestation commitments, their transparency, and their governance practices. The assessments are conducted using publicly available information on the websites of the selected companies and financial institutions.
Global Canopy is seeking a number of Language Consultants to provide research support to the Floresta 250 and Forest 500 assessments for varying periods of engagement. Language consultants will play a key role in the 2025 assessments of companies and financial institutions commitments on tropical deforestation.
The selected consultants will work collaboratively as part of a small team to identify and assess the policies and transparency of companies and financial institutions on deforestation. The consultants will assist in the identification and analysis of relevant information, while performing a translation role within the team.
You will assist in:
- Locating and cataloguing companies and financial institutions policies and other disclosed information relevant to their deforestation commitments in the assigned foreign language(s).
- Providing translations from the assigned foreign language(s) to English for analysis.
- Working with members of the Tracking team to complete the Forest 500 and Floresta 250 assessments.
Applicants should be able to complete the work remotely between 28th of July and 15th of September with the work being completed during 8am-6pm UK time (hours are flexible within this period) alongside a Global Canopy team member. All work will be conducted on a video call, due to the collaborative nature of the work. This will be discussed further at interview but please indicate your availability between July and September in your application.
A varying amount of work is available depending on the language spoken, and on the number of assessments across the project. Applicants fluent and wishing to conduct the work in more than one of the languages can flag this in their application and can expect to be allocated an amount of work for all the spoken languages relevant to our projects.

Global Canopy works on issues of global deforestation. We are particularly interested in strengthening our team to include those with a background from forest regions such as Latin America and South East Asia. We would welcome applications from people from these regions.
