Senior River Restoration Officer

  • Responsible to: Head of Nature Based Solutions
  • Responsible for: Volunteers

  • Salary: £30,091
  • Contract type: fixed term until 30th September 2028
  • Working hours: Full Time. Some evening/weekend work will be required (flexible hours, according to the needs of the communities)
  • Location: Working across Gwent. Working from home and any GWT Office. Headquarters at Mamhilad Park Estate.

As Gwent Wildlife Trust’s Senior River Restoration Officer, you will empower and inspire people from diverse communities across Gwent to take positive action to protect, manage and restore freshwater ecosystems across Gwent. To achieve this, you will work alongside partners and stakeholders to coordinate and promote citizen science and to implement nature-based solutions within the river catchments.

Working with the Head of Nature Based Solutions, the postholder will help continue to be instrumental in setting the direction for the future growth and development of our Freshwater NBS work at Gwent Wildlife Trust. Supported by colleagues across the Nature Based Solutions and Nature Recovery Teams, the Senior River Restoration Officer will join a high performing and passionate team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly organised and knowledgeable communicator, passionate about enabling communities to take action to improve river catchments and to reverse the nature and climate emergencies.

To be successful in this role, you will be knowledgeable about river ecology, hydrology, monitoring and restoration, and enjoy engaging with and inspiring a wide range of people.

Interviews will be conducted in English however please discuss with us, should you be invited, if you would like to be interviewed in Welsh. The post holder is not expected to be a fluent Welsh speaker but our recruitment process is as bilingual as possible.
