Purpose of Role

Afonydd Cymru is the umbrella body for the rivers trusts of Wales. We provide a critical advocacy role with Welsh Government and water regulators, championing rivers across Wales. The Programme Manager for Afonydd Cymru will lead delivery of strategic projects across Wales during an exciting time of development for our organisation.

You will oversee and coordinate programmes of delivery for the six regional rivers trusts in Wales, as well as deliver key projects directly for Afonydd Cymru. You will need to be able to juggle a varied work programme, as we work in partnership across Wales on a wide range of different opportunities including river restoration, nature-based solutions, planning and governance. Alongside programme management, you will also be seeking new opportunities for rivers trusts in Wales, establishing a network of contacts, developing partnerships for collaborative and co-design delivery and engaging with new audiences interested in our work. The role will be varied, fast-paced, and you will need to work independently within our close-knit team. You have the potential to make a big impact to the future of rivers in Wales.

As well as traditional project management, this role will also support on advocacy in Wales. You can help shape the future of Welsh legislation and policy and deliver improvement by supporting Afonydd Cymru with technical expertise and knowledge in areas such as water quality, mapping, nature-based solutions and biodiversity assessment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead programme management across a suite of projects led by Afonydd Cymru
  • Lead on project management ensuring projects meet their funding objectives
  • Develop framework and funding opportunities for the rivers trusts in Wales
  • Lead on developing partnerships for collaborative funding and delivery opportunities in Wales
  • Support the CEO on advocacy with a wide range of organisations across Wales
  • Support the CEO in understanding the ever-changing landscape of river restoration and identifying emerging concerns for water in Wales

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree, preferably to a more advanced level in a relevant science or engineering degree, with clear project management experience
  • Advanced IT skills with demonstrable experience in mapping and modelling essential
  • Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience
  • On-the-ground design and delivery experience of river restoration and nature-based solutions
  • Excellent communication and partnership skills

Desirable:

  • Detailed technical knowledge of Welsh policy and legislation.
