
Grounds Maintenance Team Leader

Portsmouth Water are thrilled to be looking for a Grounds Maintenance Team Leader to join the Grounds and Biodiversity Team! The successful candidate will ensure seamless maintenance and efficient delivery of targets. In this key role, the successful candidate will oversee grounds maintenance activities and work closely with other leadership teams to maintain the operability of our production assets. The successful candidate will help us drive excellence while supporting our commitment to the environment.
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring all work is undertaken to a high standard of safety and quality by following generic and specific method statements, work procedures, and safety instructions, providing input and feedback on minor non-routine activities.
- Monitoring performance through effective performance management, giving team members clear direction, support and guidance on their areas of responsibility.
- Ensure that Health & Safety procedures are followed such as Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) assessments and undertakes site-specific risk assessments including working with machinery, manual handling, hand arm vibration at work, among others.
- Conducting regular 1-1’s with direct reports, absence reviews and any other associated meetings to support ongoing effective performance management of the team.
- Conducts Employee Performance Development Review process, identifying training gaps, offering or allocating mentoring and further support as required.
- Ensure vehicles, plant and equipment remain in adequate condition and report any defects to the Production Operations Manager.
- Work closely with the Biodiversity Specialist to ensure that biodiversity targets are met and address underperformance against regulatory measures.
- Report on grounds issues across all Production sites.
- Ensure the delivery of grounds maintenance programme of works in accordance with schedule and take appropriate action to address any slippage.
- Respond to requests to undertake reactive grounds maintenance tasks to support operations or capital works
- Monitoring of external activities in the areas surrounding our works for any activities that may affect the integrity of the water sources.
- Ensure that all work is recorded within company’s Work Order Asset Management system (IFS) and undertake review of work order completion, ensuring this information is fed into Employee Performance Development Reviews.
- Liaise with mechanical team to ensure machinery availability is optimised and downtime reduced.

Skills, Qualifications & Competencies
- Adaptable with good attention to detail.

- Systems based skills, open to learning new technology.
- Passionate about providing an excellent service, to our customer, colleagues and across teams within Portsmouth Water.
- Be flexible in your work to maintain operational requirements and to ensure positive outcomes are always achieved.
- Knowledge of Invasive non-native species (INNS) e.g. Japanese Knotweed.
- Comfortable working both outdoors and inside an office.
- Formal management qualification Level 3 or above.
- Knowledge of chemical handling.
- Computer and smart phone literate.
- A to C grade or Level 4 or above, GSCE English, Maths and a Science based subject.
- Full UK driving licence (Will be required to undertake our driver assessment).

What we can offer you!
Salary: Grade 4-5.3 £31,396-£38,876 depending on experience.
+ Non-contractual bonus related to company performance of up to 6% of basic salary.
Hours: Full-time | 38 hours per week
Holiday: 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays
