RSPB Scotland Loch Leven forms part of the Loch Leven National Nature Reserve and is made up of important wetland and woodland habitats. Ospreys, marsh harriers, and swallows visit us in the summer, and up to 20,000 pink-footed geese fly in from Iceland each autumn to spend winter around the loch. Red squirrels are residents of our woodland. We offer a great day out for families, nature lovers, and wildlife watchers and can be easily accessed from the Loch Leven Heritage Trail which brings many walkers and cyclists to the site.
About the Role
Our work in the visitor centre requires regular weekend working (2 out of 4 weekends a month). Full induction and training would be provided, with opportunities to learn about the running of a busy visitor centre and nature reserve operation.
You will be able to communicate well with our visitors and offer excellent levels of customer care. Working closely with the Visitor Experience Manager, you will support our meet and greet operation, welcoming visitors to the reserve, help manage the Loch Leven social media accounts, support and deliver events (with a particular focus on family self-led trails) and support the team of visitor experience volunteers. You'll help ensure that excellent standards of site presentation and visitor service are delivered and maintained. You'll bring creativity to this role, coming up with new ideas to provide an excellent visitor experience.
Whilst a driving licence is not essential, there is no public transport to the reserve, so the ideal candidate should be able to travel to the site without difficulty.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
- GCSE or Highers Maths and English or equivalent
- Computer literate.
- Enthusiastic approach to work.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to plan and prioritise workloads.
- Multitasking skills
- Problem-solving skills and ability to work on own initiative.
- Ability to manage and respond quickly and positively to customer needs and feedback.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
- Experience of working at a visitor attraction
- Experience in managing social media accounts
- Experience of running and supporting events
- Knowledge of wildlife and conservation.
Additional Information
This is a Permanent Part-Time role for 18.75 hours (2 1/2 days) per week. The ability to work on a weekend on a regular basis is important to this role.
