Outreach Adviser - Dartmoor’s Dynamic Landscape

The Woodland Trust is looking for an Outreach Adviser in our South West region to lead the successful delivery of the Woodland Trust’s elements of Dartmoor’s Dynamic Landscapes (DDL). Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF), DDL is a partnership programme that aims to create more naturally resilient landscapes and to connect people more sustainably to place. As part of this, the Woodland Trust will deliver three projects which together will adopt a holistic approach to managing trees and woods across a number of Dartmoor’s river catchments (the Okement, Dart, Erme and Yealm).
THE ROLE
- Project manage the Woodland Trust elements of the DDL bid including liaising with internal and external staff and stakeholders, managing the budget and reporting back to the funders.
- Identifying and securing ancient trees; increasing restoration and sustainable management of ancient woodlands; integrating trees into farms to deliver benefits for both the farm business and nature; providing advice and support for landowners both directly and through consultants; and managing relationships with partners and landowner to successfully deliver the funded project.
- Manage a network of volunteers to record and verify ancient and veteran trees across the project area on and off our estate. This includes running events, training and activities for young people.
- Manage contractors and consultants to deliver landowner engagement, advice and support on the Woodland Trust’s behalf, taking responsibility for ensuring quality of work and cost effectiveness.
- Advise and support landowners in sourcing funding for schemes and ensure that the funding mechanisms are appropriate to the scale and nature of the scheme.
- This role is mainly based in Dartmoor in South West England and will require the successful candidate to travel around the region.
- This role is a full time, fixed term contract until December 2029.
- A company car will be provided for this role.
THE CANDIDATE

We are looking for candidates who have the following:
- Proven ability to successfully manage and deliver landscape-scale projects, including ensuring targets are met on time and within budget.
- Experience of overseeing a complex and diverse programme of activity and working as part of a team to ensure it is delivered effectively.
- Experience of working in the land management sector, preferably in woodland conservation, and a working knowledge of land management funding streams including grants.
- You’ll have extensive experience in delivering woodland creation and woodland management both practically on the ground, and through advising others.
- You’ll have a collaborative approach, with the ability to work with multiple teams, building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders effectively.
- Experience of partnership working, and excellent skills in networking and relationship development and management.
- Track record of building and maintaining positive relationships with landowners, farmers, partner organisations, contractors, volunteers and local communities.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbally being able to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
- A full UK driving licence will be required.
