Sussex Wildlife Trust

To deliver our new strategic plan – Our Wild Sussex – we need people with bold and innovative ideas to help us to achieve our ambitions for local wildlife and wild places.

We are committed to restoring and protecting at least 30% of Sussex land and sea for nature, inspiring one in four people to take meaningful action for wildlife, building a stronger more inclusive and diverse organisation and becoming a net zero and climate resilient organisation.

We are looking for the best and most talented people to join our team and help us deliver this exciting and ambitious strategy. We are keen to hear from you even if you don't have all the skills and experience outlined in the Job Description but have the potential to grow into a role.

So, if you are someone who is determined to see a Sussex rich in wildlife and you have drive, energy and commitment to our values of Innovation, Passion, Collaboration and Inclusion why not apply now to join our great team, working together to deliver Our Wild Sussex.

We are in the process of relocating to a new office location to replace our Woods Mill offices. The new office location is in Falmer.

In order to encourage diversity and inclusivity within the environment sector, we particularly welcome applications from people who have an ethnically or geographically diverse background, who are non-graduates and/or are living in economically deprived areas

The Role

Are you passionate about turning data into action for nature?

Join us at the heart of conservation in Sussex, where your expertise will help shape the future of our nature reserves and the wildlife that depends on them.

We’re looking for a visionary Monitoring & Evidence Manager to lead the way in transforming ecological data into powerful insights that drive decision making, influence policy, and inspire change. This is a unique opportunity to work across some of the most ecologically significant landscapes in the region, ensuring our reserves are not only protected - but thriving.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead and inspire a team of consultants, staff, and volunteers in gathering ecological data across our nature reserves.
  • Oversee monitoring and reporting of key metrics to assess habitat condition and long-term benefits to wildlife.
  • Integrate external evidence and cutting-edge research into our management plans, ensuring decisions are grounded in the best available science.
  • Coordinate annual KPI reporting to inform our Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees.
  • Engage with stakeholders including governing bodies and NGOs to meet statutory monitoring requirements.
  • Maintain and enhance data systems, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and the integration of new datasets.
  • Collaborate across teams to identify opportunities for improved data collection and analysis.
  • Manage spatial data using GIS, ensuring our maps and records are robust and up to date.
  • Support Trust-wide data visualisation, helping bring our conservation impact to life for reporting, communications, and advocacy.
  • Establish research partnerships, driving innovation and expanding our evidence base.

The Person

What We’re Looking For:

  • A strategic thinker with a deep understanding of ecological monitoring and evidence-based conservation.
  • Proven experience managing complex datasets and GIS systems.
  • A collaborative leader who thrives on working with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Someone who can translate data into compelling stories that influence and inspire.

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a passionate, forward-thinking team dedicated to restoring nature and tackling the biodiversity crisis.
  • Work in a role that blends science, strategy, and storytelling.
  • Enjoy a supportive work culture, flexible working arrangements, and opportunities for professional growth.

Ready to make a measurable difference for nature?

Apply now and help us build a future where wildlife flourishes and evidence drives every decision.
