Conservation & Wildlife

Are you passionate about nature conservation and ready to make a real impact? We’re looking for an enthusiastic, hands-on professional with practical habitat management experience to help us create a more connected and resilient natural landscape.

In this exciting role you’ll play a key part in protecting and enhancing one of the UK’s most ecologically significant areas – including The Wash & North Norfolk Marine Protected Area (MPA) network and the Norfolk Coast National Landscape.

Working within a small, dedicated, and skilled team, you’ll lead the day-to-day delivery of both local and landscape-scale nature recovery initiatives. Your work will directly contribute to the conservation, restoration, and enhancement of vital habitats and ecosystems of The Wash and Norfolk Coast and beyond.

You’ll also help shape the future of nature recovery by collaborating with partners and communities to co-develop the Norfolk Coast National Landscape Management Plan and co-deliver the Nature Recovery Action Plan. Through your efforts, you’ll raise awareness about the importance of nature, encourage responsible stewardship, and inspire actions towards an environmentally sustainable future.

We’re seeking someone with:

  • Practical habitat management experience
  • A collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement
  • A passion for restoring and protecting nature at scale
  • A full driving licence and willingness to travel across Norfolk and Lincolnshire

Why Join Us?

  • Make a tangible difference to biodiversity and ecosystem resilience
  • Be part of a friendly, supportive, and motivated team
  • Enjoy flexible working – work from our offices in Norwich and Holt, plus home working options
  • Access ongoing training and professional development
  • Receive a competitive salary and attractive benefits, including a pension scheme

If you’re ready to take your conservation career to the next level and help shape the future of The Wash and Norfolk Coast, we’d love to hear from you.

These are some benefits you can enjoy by working for Norfolk County Council:

  • Competitive salary
  • Generous holiday entitlement
  • Health and Wellbeing services including fast-track physiotherapy and a free counselling service
  • Flexible working opportunities including flexi-time, part time, remote and hybrid working – dependent on your job role and business need.
  • Financial benefits such as:
    • ‘Norfolk Rewards’ our employee discounts programme which helps you save money on almost anything, from everyday groceries and clothes, to holidays, new technology, gym membership, trips to the cinema and days out.
    • A Blue Light card for Fire Service and Social Care Workers
    • Relocation expenses (where applicable)
    • An advance of your expenses if you travel for work
    • Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution, life assurance, death in service payments and dependants’ pensions
    • Tax efficient ways of getting extra pension and new bikes
    • Access to our tax efficient car lease scheme for greener travel enabling you to lease a brand new, ultra-low emission vehicle (subject to eligibility)
    • A payment if you refer someone you know to a hard to fill job

We want our people to be inspired and motivated to work well together, make the most of our workspaces, enjoy a healthy work-life balance, and deliver excellent services to Norfolk and its people. Flexibility is built into the way we work, with hybrid working a key feature for many roles. Our technology platform and equipment are first class, enabling you to connect and collaborate remotely.
