Summary:

RePLANET is rebuilding nature. We are a global leader in the design and delivery of large-scale nature restoration projects. By unlocking private sector funding through carbon and biodiversity credits, we create projects that not only restore ecosystems but also generate significant social co-benefits for communities worldwide.

One of our four project streams is Biodiversity-Led projects, in critical conservation areas where carbon potential is low. rePLANET is identifying a portfolio of 10 globally diverse, grant-funded projects to drive forward the emerging biodiversity credit market.

The Biodiversity MRV Manager plays a critical role in shaping rePLANET’s global portfolio of biodiversity projects. This position is central to enabling the issuance of credible biodiversity credits that drive the protection and restoration of diverse ecosystems and iconic species across the world.

We’re looking for a candidate with a deep passion for biodiversity, a strong grounding in scientific methodology, and the ability to clearly communicate complex concepts to a range of stakeholders—from international conferences to boardroom briefings. This is a high-impact role for someone ready to combine scientific expertise with strategic thinking to deliver measurable, verified biodiversity outcomes at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Project Selection & Support

  • Identify and prioritise the top 10 biodiversity projects with the greatest potential to generate high-integrity biodiversity credits.
  • Provide technical guidance to each selected project, ensuring the effective application of the Wallacea Trust methodology for measuring biodiversity gains.

Biodiversity Assessment & Survey Design

  • Lead the design and implementation of baseline and follow-up biodiversity surveys for rePLANET’s directly operated projects.
  • Ensure scientific rigour and consistency across data collection methods.

MRV Process Management

  • Prepare and submit Stage 1 applications for the Biodiversity Futures Initiative (BFI) and manage these through to approval.
  • Compile and analyse raw data across taxa, establish audit methodologies, and calculate biodiversity gains for all projects.
  • Submit verified data and calculations to the BFI for independent verification and credit issuance.

Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

  • Represent rePLANET at global events and present on emerging biodiversity MRV practices, including how biodiversity value can be quantified and credited.
  • Brief senior leadership and the board on biodiversity strategy, project performance, and innovation opportunities.

Strategy & Innovation

  • Advise the rePLANET Board on the most credible and effective third-party systems for the issuance and retirement of biodiversity credits.
  • Continuously scan and integrate leading-edge MRV methods, ensuring rePLANET remains at the forefront of biodiversity crediting practices.

Skills and Experience

  • Undergraduate or Higher degree (i.e. Masters or PhD) in a relevant discipline that would provide the knowledge to underpin biodiversity quantification
  • Extensive practical as well as academic experience in sampling taxa in a range of habitats and knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of each method and analysis approach.
  • Previous successful experience in presenting at conferences and webinars
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Good knowledge of Spanish would be advantageous as many of the projects are in the LATAM region
  • Must have strong skills in statistical analysis and preference R

Personal Attributes

  • Ability to react flexibly to changing priorities
  • Ability to manage workloads self-sufficiently
  • Good public speaker and able to make a strong logical argument
  • Strongly motivated to help kick start the biodiversity credit market
  • Strong interest in Nature and ensuring all rePLANET projects deliver biodiversity gains
  • Freedom to travel overseas for periods of time checking potential projects and checking the efficiency of the MRV work

Working Arrangements

Working arrangements will differ depending on the location of the successful applicant.

rePLANET works on projects around the world and there is an expectation that all staff are prepared to work for extended periods in the field, including overseas.

About rePLANET

rePLANET is a mission-driven organisation dedicated to unlocking private sector finance for the restoration and protection of nature at a global scale. We design and implement large-scale landscape restoration projects, funding them through carbon and biodiversity credits, with a market-leading commitment to reinvesting at least 60% of project income directly into local communities.

Founded by scientists in 2021, rePLANET has quickly emerged as one of the most innovative and trusted players in the nature-based solutions space. Backed by significant equity investment, we are now scaling operations through four core project streams:

Our Four Project Streams

  1. Wildlife Corridors in Cattle Landscapes We restore degraded cattle pasture by introducing rotational grazing systems to intensify production on a smaller footprint. This approach frees up land for reforestation and wildlife corridors, generating high-quality carbon and biodiversity credits.
    • First 8 projects: Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina
    • Estimated credit generation: approximately 40 million carbon credits
  2. Mangrove Restoration via Sustainable Shrimp Farming We restore abandoned or underutilised shrimp ponds and link them to productive shrimp farms. For every hectare of active shrimp pond, one hectare of mangrove is restored, allowing producers to sell their shrimp as sustainable while regenerating critical coastal ecosystems.
  3. Wildlife Corridors in Agroforestry Systems We focus on stranded or end-of-life plantations, replacing them through biomass burial and replanting. A minimum of 15% of replanted land is restored as native habitat corridors, supporting biodiversity and resilience while generating carbon and biodiversity credits.
  4. Biodiversity-Led Projects (Where Carbon Alone Isn’t Viable) These are restoration and conservation initiatives in areas with low carbon potential. They rely on a new financial instrument: biodiversity credits, which are essential to fully fund these projects.

Innovating in Biodiversity Credit Markets

rePLANET is a pioneer in quantifying and monetising biodiversity gains. For the first three project types, biodiversity gains are calculated using the Wallacea Trust methodology, peer-reviewed by the Biodiversity Futures Initiative (BFI). These gains are issued alongside carbon credits—allowing buyers to claim a 50% increase in biodiversity as part of their carbon offset purchase. This premium co-benefit helps raise the value of our carbon credits.

Where projects deliver biodiversity gains above the 50% threshold, the surplus is issued as standalone biodiversity credits, creating an additional income stream and marketable asset.

However, biodiversity-only projects (option 4) face a major funding gap: carbon markets can’t support them, and private investors are reluctant due to the embryonic and high-risk nature of biodiversity credit markets.

To address this, rePLANET is leading efforts to establish secondary markets for biodiversity credits. The strategy is to:

  • Quantify biodiversity gains from philanthropic and grant-funded projects
  • Issue biodiversity credits to donors or grant agencies
  • Enable resale of credits, allowing funders to recover and reinvest their capital
  • Establish real-world pricing data to kickstart biodiversity credit trading

To support this effort, rePLANET is assembling a portfolio of 10 globally diverse, grant-funded projects, operated by conservation partners. We provide technical support on biodiversity measurement and credit issuance, building a robust pipeline of high-integrity biodiversity credits tied to the protection or restoration of key habitats and charismatic species worldwide.

Global Impact and Reach

With active projects across Central and South America—including Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina—rePLANET is delivering scalable, science-based solutions for nature restoration. We are proud to be helping shape the future of finance for nature, making us perfectly positioned to lead the charge in the Biodiversity credit market.

About rePLANET

rePLANET is a for purpose company, driving large scale ecological restoration and protection through private sector funding. Our priority is that the main beneficiary of these projects should be the owners, users or managers of the areas being restored or protected. 60% of the final price of any carbon or biodiversity credit sold from our projects returns to benefit local stakeholders. This level of funding can be life-changing for the impoverished communities benefiting, allowing them to develop small businesses or improve health, education or housing. rePLANET projects produce premium quality carbon and biodiversity credits with substantial benefits to local stakeholders, and the costs of these credits are deliberately kept competitive so that they attract large scale-funding to restore or protect substantial areas.
