Fisheries Management Scotland is seeking to appoint a dynamic and ambitious individual to support our members in efforts to conserve and restore wild Atlantic salmon. This exciting role is funded by Crown Estate Scotland.

The Wild Salmon Conservation Manager will support efforts by Scotland’s District Salmon Fishery Boards, the River Tweed Commission and Rivers and Fisheries Trusts to secure a future for Scotland’s wild Atlantic salmon, sea trout, freshwater fish and the habitats on which they depend. The successful individual will engage with Scottish Government and Agencies, and the Scottish Parliament to support delivery of key strategies and policies. These include the Wild Salmon Strategy, Biodiversity Strategy, River Basin Management Planning, the Riverwoods Blueprint Project, and the roll out of reformed agricultural payments. In parallel with our work on Nature Finance, we anticipate that a key role of the Wild Salmon Conservation Manager will be to support Fisheries Management Scotland members in developing high quality applications to the resulting fund(s) to support work to restore the aquatic environment for the benefit of wild Atlantic salmon and sea trout. This will include support for projects and actions identified in Fisheries Management Plans which were completed in March 2025.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven planning and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise competing demands and a track record of successful delivery;
  • A strong understanding of policy development and advocacy;
  • Excellent negotiating skills;
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills;
  • Proven project management skills;
  • Proven data and analytical skills;
  • Highly developed communication and collaborative skills and experience in building relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders;
  • Knowledge of a wide range of stakeholders, across public, private, charitable and academic sectors
  • Well-developed IT skills, including use of standard software packages (MS SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat).
  • Willingness to travel across Scotland;
  • Access to a motor vehicle and a full driving licence;
  • A good understanding of the fisheries management sector in Scotland, would be an advantage.
