Campaigning Communications Officer

You will play a central role in building a movement of people taking multiple actions for nature, growing the public demand for tackling the nature and climate crisis. You will have a good understanding of the NI Assembly and the wider political landscape and be able to work effectively with partners and stakeholders external to the RSPB, as well as mobilise our supporters.
You’ll have great writing skills and be able to communicate complex or technical topics in a clear manner to develop shared understanding on what nature needs to thrive. You’ll also need excellent planning, prioritisation and project management skills and the ability to organise yourself and keep a campaign on track and to deadlines.

What's the role about?
Our advocacy campaigns are key to help secure policies to tackle the biodiversity crisis. You will co-ordinate and deliver a programme of public-facing campaigns, which drive and empower public action in support of RSPB conservation, advocacy and growing support priorities.
You will have a good understanding of the political landscape in Northern Ireland and be able to interpret and adapt RSPBNI’s campaigns to seize opportunities. You will have knowledge of the operations and structures of the NI Assembly and have a good sense of current affairs. You will play a key role in driving the RSPB’s campaigns in Northern Ireland and help grow our team of campaigning volunteers.
This role is mainly home-based however, the post holder will be required to organise campaign events, etc and attend associated meetings in NI.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
- Educated to degree level with a minimum of two years’ experience in campaigning, policy, communications or marketing OR have equivalent experience gained through work experience relevant to the role.
- Good advocacy and communications knowledge, and demonstratable examples of delivering multi-channel campaigns in support of initiatives or policy asks (public-facing communications and advocacy).
- The approach required to plan and deliver a public-facing campaign; how to create a campaign strategy and plan capable of communicating key messages to priority target audiences, driving them to take action.
- Good understanding of the policy, political and media landscape at UK and devolved levels, and experience interpreting/reacting to this to support project goals.
- Experience of writing for media and online and producing supporting photographic, audio visual and digital assets to support organisational priorities.
- Communications - listening, written and verbal: Able to communicate complex or technical topics in a clear manner at all levels to develop shared understanding.
- Strong social and interpersonal skills, with the gravitas to influence key stakeholders and organise/participate cross functional project teams
Desirable qualifications, knowledge and experience:
- Interest in nature conservation and global climate issues.
- Experience of working with external agencies to develop communications campaigns.
- Experience of planning and managing events

This is a Permanent Full-Time role for 37.5 hours per week.
