Carbon, Climate & EnergySustainability

Pure Leapfrog

Pure Leapfrog is a mission-driven organisation supporting the transition to a fair, inclusive, and low-carbon energy system. We work with communities, local authorities, and partners across the UK to design, fund and deliver renewable and retrofit projects that deliver social as well as environmental impact.

Role Purpose

The Community Energy Manager will play a key role in helping communities and partners design, develop and deliver viable, legally robust, and financially sustainable energy projects. You will lead and support project development from concept through to investment readiness, providing expertise across energy and financial modelling, governance, fundraising and stakeholder engagement.

You will also represent Pure Leapfrog externally, building partnerships, supporting business development, and contributing to the growth of our pipeline of impactful community-led energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

Project Development and Management

  • Support and lead the design and delivery of community energy projects (renewables, retrofit, heat, storage, etc.) from feasibility to implementation.
  • Conduct or oversee energy modelling and financial modelling, ensuring technical and commercial viability.
  • Advise on and help establish appropriate governance structures (e.g. CICs, CBSs, co-operatives) and ensure projects have a clear and defensible legal basis.
  • Support or lead community share offers, investment raises and funding applications.
  • Provide quality assurance and peer review for feasibility studies, business cases and investment models.

Partnerships and Representation

  • Represent Pure Leapfrog in the community energy sector, at stakeholder events, and in partnership discussions.
  • Contribute to business development, building relationships with communities, local authorities, funders and developers to generate new opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other team members to identify, scope and secure new projects and partnerships.

Knowledge and Sector Leadership

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of renewable energy technologies, retrofit, and community business models.
  • Share best practice within the team and sector, supporting the development of standard tools, templates and guidance.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and advocacy around community-led energy and local net zero delivery.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the community energy sector or related area (renewables, local energy systems, community finance).
  • Demonstrated experience with energy and financial modelling for renewable or community projects.
  • Strong understanding of governance structures, legal frameworks and funding mechanisms (including share raises).
  • Proven ability to manage projects through early-stage development to investment readiness.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with ability to build trust across technical and community contexts.
  • Commitment to Pure Leapfrog’s mission and values.

Desirable

  • A keen interest in sector and business model innovation.
  • Knowledge of the energy regulatory and policy environment.
  • Experience with retrofit or energy efficiency projects.
  • Familiarity with subsidy control, local authority procurement or social investment.
  • Experience contributing to or leading business development and pipeline building.
  • Professional qualification or degree in a relevant field (engineering, finance, sustainability, etc.).

Our culture

The Pure Leapfrog group is committed to being a socially and environmentally impactful organisation. We value our team, our communities and the organisations we work with and seek to treat them with respect.

You’ll join a passionate and growing team that holds a historic place in the UK’s community energy movement. This is an opportunity to shape impactful local energy projects, support real community ownership, and help drive the transition to a fair and sustainable energy future.
