We are looking a Senior Project Manager to lead and deliver exciting, innovative, mainly flood risk related projects. The roleholder will primarily be working on our Lincolnshire Coastal Protection Programme initially.

This role sits in Projects & Programme Delivery (PPD) and is a senior position within our integrated project teams, taking responsibility for the delivery of projects as the Client project manager, or accountability as project executive. You will manage the project delivery process from initial strategic planning, through to feasibility, detailed design, into construction and handover. You will work with a develop a wide range of internal and external team members.

You will build a great working environment with high performing teams including our suppliers, client representatives, technical specialists, and partners. Applying your strong commercial acumen in project, contract, and risk management, you will establish effective relationships, facilitating collaborative and efficient ways of working. You will make key project decisions informed by technical leads whilst following governance procedures, project assurance and legislation.

The ability to develop a resilient network of relationships with stakeholders such as statutory authorities, landowners, and local communities to negotiate agreements, consents, approvals and external funding is crucial.

The role will require regular travel to project and coastal sites, regular office colocation and attending meetings in various offices.

Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises. Having an incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment. The Team

The PCM-Midland’s hub is led by a Delivery Manager overseeing approximately 80 staff, supported by Programme Specialists, Programme Managers and Project Team Managers (PTM). Each PTM manages 8-15 Project Executives, Project Managers and Project Support Officers who manage the day-to-day delivery of projects within our flood & coastal erosion risk management programme using our framework suppliers. Other internal roles forming part of our integrated delivery teams include commercial, environmental, asset managers, financial, estates, and legal.

Experience/Skills Required

  • A degree (or equivalent) in an engineering, environmental or geography related discipline. Ideally with chartered membership of a professional body such as ICE, CIWEM or APMP.
  • High level of experience of project and/or contract management desirable.
  • Technical expertise covering feasibility assessment, asset management, business case development, cost monitoring/forecasting, scope preparation, CDM, engineering design and construction.
  • Extensive experience in a programme management, project delivery and contract management, ideally within engineering, construction and/or flood & coastal risk management.
  • Project Executive role experience would be beneficial
