Contract Duration: Initially 18 months with intention to extend depending on funding.
Hours: 4 days a week with occasional weekends and evening to be expected. Based on a 35-hour week. We operate a Time Off in Lieu policy.
Benefits: Holiday allowance is 33 days including bank holidays (pro-rata). We are also closed between the 27th and 31st December for a rest period which is not taken from your holiday allowance. 5% employer pension contribution. Free attendance at SLBI events and workshops.
Location: The official workplace is the South London Botanical Institute in Tulse Hill as well as other locations for in-person meetings and workshops off site. We support flexible working and there is scope to work from home on average of 1 day a week.
Overview
We are looking for a highly organised, proactive, hands-on, collaborative and creative person to join our team as our General Operations Manager. This role will focus on strengthening our operational resilience and organisational growth. The General Operations Manager will be responsible for the care and coordination of our building, collections, systems and income-generating hires, while supporting financial processes, communications and staffing matters and contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the organisation.
This is a post that combines strategic oversight with active involvement in operational delivery. As a small team, we work collaboratively and flexibly, and this role includes both leadership and on-the-ground support.
We are a small and ambitious building-based charity working at the intersection of plant knowledge, peer-to-peer learning, heritage and climate organising. We collaborate with communities, educators, researchers, artists and activists to foster deeper relationships with plants and local ecosystems.
About the Role
The General Operations Manager plays a key leadership role in ensuring that our team, building, resources and internal systems support the delivery of SLBI’s mission and allow it to grow sustainably.
An enhanced DBS check is necessary for this role.
