Do you have a passion for creating inspiring learning experiences that connect people with gardening, plants, and the natural world? Are you energised by working in a hands-on, creative environment where growing and nature are at the heart of everything you do?

Across the UK, we deliver a school programme that champions gardening as an essential part of education—integrating it into the curriculum, building green skills and supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.

We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Learning Manager to lead our Learning Team at RHS Garden Harlow Carr. This exciting role is part of the RHS-wide Learning and Public Engagement division, which is driving a step change in how we engage audiences and deliver learning across the UK.

About the Role

As Learning Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Inspiring and motivating Harlow Carr’s Learning Team to deliver exceptional, enjoyable, and engaging experiences for all school visitors and home gardeners.
  • Leading the development and delivery of key learning projects across schools, engagement with young people and home gardeners — including planning logistics, managing budgets, developing content, coordinating partnerships, promoting programmes, monitoring engagement and income KPIs and planning staffing levels.
  • Driving engagement with our school and home gardener programmes, ensuring they are inclusive, impactful and rooted in horticulture.

You’ll oversee the delivery of all in-garden school programmes at RHS Harlow Carr, including curriculum-aligned workshops, school visits and school events. You’ll also manage the coordination of our popular courses and workshops for home gardeners and support the development of new opportunities for young people to engage with plants, gardening, and nature-based learning.

This role involves working collaboratively across the garden site and with managers of our National Learning Programmes and other gardens to ensure our audiences are inspired through gardening and that programmes are cohesive and aligned with our RHS strategy. You’ll also act as a site Duty Manager on a rota basis, ensuring excellent visitor experience and coordinating responses to site emergencies.

This is a part time role at 30 hours per week.

About You

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Substantial experience in leading educational or engagement programmes in informal learning settings (e.g., museums, visitor attractions, cultural institutions, or education charities)
  • A track record of creating, developing, and delivering innovative and inspiring learning programmes for school audiences.
  • Passion for connecting school and home gardener audiences with plants, gardening and nature
  • Experience in leading, inspiring, and motivating a small team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
  • Experience in planning and monitoring budgets
  • Outstanding organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong operational experience managing learning programmes in a busy public-facing site

Apply now to help us cultivate learning, curiosity and connection through horticulture at RHS Garden Harlow Carr.
