About the Role

The ESG Manager position is a dynamic and varied role that sits within the Project Design Team, reporting to the Head of Project Compliance and working closely with international ops teams. The scope of work is to manage and delivery of the Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAPs) for each project, including production and refinement of documentation to meet the expectations of the company board and project investors, design locally appropriate E&S strategies and coordinate input from local project teams, train relevant local teams and staff members on ESG policies, action plans and monitoring, and audit the monitoring and implementation of ESG policies, safeguards and action plans. The ESG Manager role requires someone with industry experience of writing, applying and monitoring ESAPs and ESG workflows, including scheduling and management of audits.

Key Responsibilities

ESG Strategy and Design: Work collaboratively the project design team to ensure that ESG policies, procedures and monitoring frameworks are locally appropriate and integrated with wider project design and compliance with carbon and biodiversity standards.

Data Collection and reporting: Coordinate and quality assess collection of data across the ESAP, training the relevant project staff to collect project data that feeds into a centralised system for reporting to the rePLANET Board and project investors. Additionally, you will be responsible for responding to individual investor reporting requirements through their own platforms.

Site visits, training delivery and audits: Some travel may be required for this role to deliver face-to-face training with local staff. However, it is expected that the post holder will need to schedule and resource site visits remotely, conducted by local qualified staff members or consultants.

Knowledge Management: Conduct periodic reviews of ESG documents and ensure that training materials and project ESG libraries are well maintained and up-to-date (including with all relevant legislation and sector standards), and that updates to documents are disseminated to the relevant staff members.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
  • Higher degree (i.e. Masters or PhD) in a relevant discipline

Experience

Essential

  • Delivery, implementation and monitoring of Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAPs) (including policies and procedures)
  • Production and delivery of training associated with ESAPs
  • Scheduling, planning and resourcing of audits in international locations

Desirable

  • Experience with collaboratively delivering multi-stakeholder projects against different contracts, targets and budgets
  • Experience working on nature-based solutions, carbon or sustainable development projects

Skills and knowledge

Essential

  • Fluent Spanish (spoken and written)
  • Strong English communication (written and spoken)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools and setup
  • Ability to write clearly, accurately and concisely whilst working towards tight deadlines
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate data and other evidence to inform decisions
  • Familiarity with core concepts from carbon accreditation, such as additionality, leakage and dynamic baselines

Working Arrangements

The appointment is permanent, subject to the successful completion of a six-month probationary period. Applicants must have strong written and verbal English and Spanish language skills.

Working arrangements will differ depending on the location of the successful applicant, but this is expected to be a remote role with regular travel to project sites, particularly in Latin America. Staff based in the UK or Europe may also be asked to attend in-person team events in the UK.
