About the role

The Land Manager will play a crucial role in identifying suitable land opportunities, collaborating with landowners and agents, and overseeing the process of onboarding land for Habitat Bank creation and working with our delivery Team to create and manage the Habitat Banks on farms across England.

It is important that you live in the South of England - Bristol, Oxford, Buckinghamshire/Hertfordshire would be ideal.

The role requires effective communication, collaboration with internal teams, and engagement with external stakeholders such as farmers, landowners, and Local Authorities.

  • Identify and onboard new land opportunities to establish Habitat Banks, liaising with landowners and agents.
  • Prioritise the creation of Habitat Banks based on Local Authority BNG (Biodiversity Net Gain) credit demand and known purchaser demand, with input from the sales team.
  • Conduct thorough due diligence to assess site suitability for Habitat Bank creation, coordinating with internal teams including ecology, project delivery, legal, and finance.
  • Drive sites through an internal governance processes. Gather and analyse data to support targeted Habitat Bank creation, including reviewing local plan policies, agri-environment scheme information, and market sector reports.
  • Work as part of a collaborative project team to create the Habitat and deliver capital works and then support the ongoing management of the site, liaising with landowners regularly.
  • Manage and execute the planning and consenting processes required for habitat creation.
  • Participate in regional and national marketing events to promote Environment Bank and the concept of Habitat Bank creation to farmers and landowners.

What we need from you:

  • Experience of working directly with farmers and landowners, in a professional capacity.
  • Experience in rural land management an advantage, but not essential.
  • Preferably possess a working knowledge of Farm Business Tenancies and relevant environmental matters related to rural land management.
  • Some understanding of utilising Land Registry and other publicly available legal and land management data sources.
  • Project management experience would be beneficial, especially in the environmental sector.
  • MRICS or CAAV would be useful, but not essential.
  • Full UK clean driving license and willingness to travel for regional site visits and events.
