Outdoor Learning Lead

  • Location: Wild Garsdale Pike, Garsdale, Cumbria.
  • Hours: 2 days/week, flexible including some weekend working. Fixed term, 3 years.
  • Salary: £29,000 pa FTE (£11,600 pa for 15 hours/week)
  • Closing date: 12 noon Friday 27th March 2026

The role

As our Outdoor Learning Lead you'll work closely with our trustee team to plan, deliver, and evaluate outdoor learning workshops and activities primarily for secondary school and youth groups. The role will inspire engagement and connection with nature, conservation and natural regeneration, supporting participants', wellbeing, practical skills and environmental understanding.

About Us

Wild Garsdale Pike is a youth-led environmental charity working with young people aged 11–25 across the north-west. Based on 200 acres in Cumbria, we provide practical outdoor learning, conservation experience, and research opportunities. Our work connects young people with nature, builds skills, confidence, and environmental knowledge, and fosters guardianship of the natural world. We have an active Youth Steering Group of young people aged 13 – 25, who contribute to all aspects of the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive outdoor learning sessions for secondary schools and youth groups.
  • Lead practical activities and workshops on site
  • Work closely with our Youth Steering Group to involve young people in learning delivery and decision-making and support their site visits.
  • Ensure safety and wellbeing of all participants, following safeguarding and risk assessment procedures.
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of learning and engagement outcomes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, teachers, community groups and local partners.

About Wild Garsdale Pike

Wild Garsdale Pike works with young people giving them a voice and the opportunity to explore conservation and environmental issues and gain practical conservation and research experience. We have a permanent Youth Steering Group of young people aged 13 - 25 years, who make 10 or more visits a year. Working with the trustees, they have ownership over the project and contribute to the decisions we take.
