Carbon, Climate & Energy

Our graduate scheme offers a fantastic opportunity to develop commercial experience in a friendly and rapidly-growing company.

You will gain experience in all aspects of our business, from sales processing to operations and accounts, but with a particular focus on a few key areas depending on your strengths - more on that below!

The post is initially for a year, with the possibility of moving on to a permanent position in the company afterwards.

We are flexible about start dates - we would consider applicants who can start now as well as those who graduate this summer.

Who we’re looking for

You’re intelligent, friendly, good with technical detail, and you want a career that will make a difference.

  • You’re intelligent, friendly, good with technical detail, and you want a career that will make a difference. Perhaps you're inclined to start your own business one day - at any rate disappearing into a large organisation or doing the same thing every day doesn't appeal.
  • You’re eager for early responsibility and you want to find out first-hand how a growing business operates in a young and competitive industry.
  • You’re ambitious, passionate about the environment and about business.
  • You’re well-rounded in your skill-set - you’ve a head for figures, great communication skills and you’re willing to get stuck in.

"The Midsummer grad scheme is the perfect stepping stone into real life work after university. The rotation across departments meant I was constantly gaining new perspectives, all within a super welcoming and helpful team. Having that level of support and variety was invaluable"

Quim- Graduate Scheme (2025 cohort)

For this year's intake, we are looking for graduates with an interest or skills in the following key areas.

Coding: We make industry leading software and we make our own systems and tools. The software engineer roles require significant experience and aptitude, but it is useful to have others in the company with coding abilities too - so do apply if you know your way around some coding languages and have done some projects of your own.

Marketing: If you have strengths in areas such as design, video editing, social media marketing, presenting to camera or producing podcasts, web design or writing and editing copy then those would also be an advantage.

Systems thinking: If you love data and problem solving, and the idea of optimising processes and finding efficiencies then we'd love to talk to you. Scaling new activities within the company involves quickly getting to grips with problems, and presenting solutions. We're looking for people who are interested in numbers, business and sustainability and keen to combine those passions.

Sales & Relationship Building: We are a sales company. The ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of customers, from corporates and construction businesses to SMEs, is essential. Engaging at events, building trust and ensuring customers receive the best possible service are all central to our success as a business. If you're a people person with a competitive spirit, do apply.

What it offers

You’ll gain hands-on experience in the sort of day to day decision-making that happens at a growing company in a rapidly-changing industry. You'll enjoy exposure to real business problem-solving in a variety of contexts, and put your talents to use in a dynamic team environment.

The programme offers a salary of £30,000 and the possibility of a long-term position for the right candidate, as well as the chance to develop contacts in a growing industry. There’s a friendly and informal atmosphere in the office, and a real buzz when things get busy.

The role allows 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays, and it's a friendly and dynamic office environment with an emphasis on teamwork, and a shared environmental ethos across the company as a whole.

The Programme:

The purpose of the graduate scheme is to give you wide ranging experience of all aspects of operating a small company. You will spend time in various departments of the business, possibly some of the following:

Solar Sales Team

Working with the Sales and Administrative teams, you will deal direct with customer enquires and orders. As well as speaking to customers on the phone, or answering their emails, you will be processing online orders and helping with customer payments and stock or design queries. You will also liaise with the operations team while handling customer enquiries about deliveries and logistics, and spend some time in one of our warehouses.

Renewable Heat Team

We launched our renewable heat division in 2021, so it's still the newest part of Midsummer, and one with enormous growth potential as the UK begins to decarbonise its heating. A rotation in the heat team offers the opportunity to learn the technical ins and outs of heat pumps, and the associated system parts, as well as the considerations that go into a proper system design for retrofit and new build applications. You'll handle customer enquiries, get hands-on with the hardware, and take part in developing, using and promoting our unique heat pump sizing software, Heatpunk.

Marketing and Communications

Any successful company needs a great marketing team and ours is the best. You may be plunged straight into the planning and logistics of setting up our stand for a trade show, or get creative and help to design materials for a new product launch, or refresh those literary skills by writing an article for our blog.

Software Sales

As part of the Software Sales team, you'll play a key role in promoting and supporting customers to use and get the most out of our innovative software tools, Easy PV and Heatpunk. You may also provide technical support and guidance to users, resolve any issues they encounter, and ensure that their experience with our software is smooth and efficient.

As well as the above, the scheme will expose you to business functions that may include the following:

  • Purchasing
  • Operations & Logistics
  • Off Grid Systems
  • Business Development
  • Administration & Accounting
  • Technical Support

There may be the opportunity to spend a month or two at our Glasgow offices during the year!

As a hands-on introduction to all aspects of running a medium sized company, our graduate scheme will equip you with skills and experience that would transfer to any small but growing firm, and an insight into a career in the renewables industry.
