Are you passionate about restoring vital habitats and helping shape a thriving Nature Recovery Network across Cumbria? We’re looking for a dedicated Senior Peatland Conservation Officer to play a key role in delivering our ambitious peatland restoration programme.

About the Role

As Senior Peatland Officer, you will support the delivery and development of the Trust’s peatland work, ensuring it contributes meaningfully to landscape-scale nature recovery. A core part of your role will be leading on project monitoring and evaluation, ensuring restoration activities achieve their intended ecological outcomes.

You’ll work both independently and collaboratively within a supportive team, helping to manage key aspects of the programme and contributing to the long-term recovery of Cumbria’s peatland habitats.

About You

We’re looking for someone who brings energy, initiative, and a genuine enthusiasm for conservation. You will have:

  • Essential experience in peatland restoration, including practical delivery and a strong understanding of peatland ecology, habitats, and management principles.
  • Experience in ecological surveying and biological recording.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong self‑motivation and a positive approach.
  • A good understanding of monitoring and evaluation within conservation projects.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of GIS mapping systems and their application in habitat management.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact on Cumbria’s natural environment. You’ll be part of a committed team working to restore some of the county’s most important carbon‑rich habitats, contributing directly to climate resilience and biodiversity recovery.
