Marine Restoration Assistant - Fixed term contract for one year

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s fastest growing nature conservation organisations and seeks to appoint a Marine Restoration Assistant.

The Marine Restoration Assistant is a fixed-term role based at Spurn National Nature Reserve, supporting the delivery of the Wilder Humber Seascape programme. Working within the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s marine team, the postholder will assist with the restoration of key coastal and marine habitats, including seagrass, native oyster, saltmarsh, and sand dunes, while contributing to monitoring, data management, and volunteer coordination activities across the Humber Estuary.

In this role, you’ll support hands-on marine restoration work, including seagrass and oyster recovery, alongside assisting with ecological monitoring and surveys such as fish, bird, and water quality assessments. As well as managing and analysing data, contributing to reporting, and helping coordinate and lead volunteers, you will support communications and stakeholder engagement through outreach materials and events, ensuring restoration projects are delivered safely, effectively, and in line with organisational standards.

The role requires practical experience in marine or aquatic restoration and ecological surveying, with experience of working with volunteers considered advantageous. Candidates should have strong organisational and administrative skills, including the ability to collect, manage, and process data using tools such as Excel. A good understanding of marine ecosystems, UK marine species, and coastal processes is desirable, alongside strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with volunteers and stakeholders. An awareness of health and safety in outdoor and marine environments is essential. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team, including in remote and physically demanding conditions. Desirable skills include scientific writing, and basic data analysis (e.g. using R). A full UK driving licence is required, as well as a willingness to work flexibly, including weekends and undertaking outdoor fieldwork in a range of conditions.
