Head of Finance/Financial Controller

About the role

Joju operates across EV charging, commercial solar PV, and operations & maintenance. Joju needs a senior finance leader to take ownership of the finance function, strengthen controls, improve reporting, develop the team and provide commercial challenge to the wider business.

You’ll report directly to the CEO and act as the senior finance lead across the business, partnering with operational leaders. This is a hands-on role – you’ll be close to the detail on management accounts and cashflow, but you’ll also be the person the operational teams turn to when they need financial input on projects, tenders, and commercial decisions.

We’re looking for someone who can combine strong technical accounting with genuine people management, and who isn’t afraid to challenge the business where the numbers don’t stack up.

What you’ll be doing & overseeing & reviewing

Financial reporting & control

• Review monthly management accounts with variance analysis and commentary that actually means something to non-finance people
• Own balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and journals
• Review P&L performance and flag risks and opportunities early
• Maintain and improve financial controls across the business
• Manage and run our stock control processes

Cashflow & working capital

• Run cashflow forecasting and keep it current
• Stay on top of aged debtors and drive cash collection
• Manage supplier payments and payment runs
• Give the CEO and senior team a reliable picture of cash and working capital at all times

People management

• Lead and develop the finance team (three people) – set priorities, review work, and invest in their development
• Be the main point of contact for finance across the business
• Build a team culture where standards are high and people are supported

Project & Commercial Finance

• Work closely with project managers to track project profitability and margins across all divisions
• Provide financial oversight on live projects and flag issues before they become problems
• Support tenders and commercial decisions with robust financial analysis

Systems & Process Improvement

• Drive finance automation – reduce manual work and improve the speed and accuracy of reporting
• Improve / Redesign processes, controls, and how data is used to support decisions

Compliance & Audit

• Oversee VAT returns, CIS, payroll, and statutory reporting
• Lead the year-end audit and manage the relationship with external auditors
• Keep us compliant with all financial and regulatory requirements

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
• Proven experience in a Head of Finance, Financial Controller or number one finance role in a project-based SME
• Project accounting experience – this is non-negotiable given the nature of our work
• Experience with construction industry VAT and CIS requirements
• Proven people manager who can get the best out of a small team
• Strong track record in finance automation and process improvement
• Experience working alongside project managers and integrating finance into operational workflows
• Advanced Excel skills and sharp attention to detail

Desirable

• Experience with Xero and/or Commusoft
• Background in renewable energy or a similar project-based sector
• Experience in a growing SME environment

Package

• £70,000 – £80,000 depending on experience
