About The Role

Are you seeking a role in which you can turn your bold ideas for nature recovery into meaningful action? Do you want to make a positive difference to some of the most biodiverse habitats in the UK?

We’re looking for two enthusiastic and proactive conservationists to join WWT’s Wetland Conservation Directorate at Senior Project Manager level, driving forward our ambitions to deliver wetland recovery at scale across some of the UK’s most important and iconic wetland landscapes – what we call a Waterscape.

WWT already plays a significant role in our three active Waterscapes: the Severn Vale; Somerset Coast & Levels; and the Cambridgeshire Fens. As well as managing internationally important wetland centres in the Waterscapes at Slimbridge, Steart Marshes and Welney, over the past few years we have developed and led a number of large-scale, cutting-edge and impactful partnership projects involving habitat creation and restoration, species recovery, and evidence-gathering.

As Senior Project Manager (Waterscapes), you’ll be responsible for developing and managing our next batch of projects in one or more Waterscapes, working collaboratively with partners and other WWT teams to achieve as much as possible for wetland wildlife and people. You’ll be a champion for our ambitious and transformational Waterscapes visions and play an influential role in advocating for wetlands as WWT’s representative with local stakeholders and other audiences.

For the right candidates, we can offer:

  • a central role in shaping wetland conservation at the landscape-scale,
  • an office base at one of our wetland sites, and
  • the opportunity to work with and learn from other WWT teams, including Wetland Evidence, Reserves and Conservation Breeding.

We are inviting invitations for applicants based at Slimbridge or Steart Marshes, with the ability to travel to any of the three Waterscapes as required. Hybrid working will be considered.

Elsewhere, this role might be called Senior Conservation Manager, Programme Manager, Project Development Manager or Nature Recovery Manager.

About You

We are looking for a practically-minded conservationist with up-to-date knowledge and extensive experience of landscape-scale ecology and conservation, preferably with a wetland focus. You’ll be a proactive and motivated person, who demonstrates a dedication to nature recovery and is able to think and act flexibly and creatively to get things done.

You’ll be a strong communicator, advocating your work successfully to a wide range of stakeholders, and effective at engaging and negotiating with diverse audiences, including senior decision-makers. You’ll have substantial experience of managing large, complex projects and be proficient in building and managing a team.

If this sounds like you, then we would love to hear from you. Come and join us in delivering our vision of a world where healthy wetland nature thrives and enriches lives.

Whatever you do here, you’ll be helping to restore wetlands and unlock their power. So, the only question left is, what role will you play?
