About The Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a talented educator with a passion for helping children fall in love with nature to join our team at Washington Wetland Centre, an urban oasis of a nature reserve with a busy and popular schools programme.
The role includes delivering a wide range of curriculum linked sessions as well as the innovative new Generation Wild programme, which enables children from disadvantaged communities to connect with nature and includes a puppetry performance element.
It will also include planning and delivery of non-formal events to day visitors to our site plus administrative duties related to formal learning visits.
This is an annualised hours contract based on an average of 23.5 hours per week with seasonal variations. Salary will be paid in equal monthly amounts.
About You
Our ideal candidate will be confident and inclusive, and have a passion for helping children to access, experience and learn about our wonderful wetlands world. You will be a highly organised educator with experience of teaching outside the classroom, with a passion for nature.
We are looking for someone:
- Educated to A-level standard or equivalent in a relevant subject e.g. Biology, Environmental Science or Education.
- Experienced in working with school groups in an educational establishment, visitor attraction or in the outdoors.
- Experienced in working with families through designing and delivering informal learning activities.
- With office or administrative experience, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.
- Able to independently and confidently deliver learning sessions and public activities.
- With excellent time management and an ability to prioritise workload to ensure longer term projects are completed as well as daily duties.
- Able to originate ideas and bring creative thought to the development and delivery of new learning programmes and education activities.
- With excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication with teachers, visitors, supporters and other stakeholders.
