We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person with knowledge of IT systems and GIS in the environment sector to join The Wildlife Information Centre’s small and dedicated team. You will be responsible for maintaining TWIC’s IT systems and databases. In acquiring, analysing and supplying biodiversity data, you will be liaising with a wide range of public and private organisations across south-east and central Scotland.

The Wildlife Information Centre (TWIC) is an environmental charity with an established reputation for excellence in the provision of biodiversity data within south-east and part of central Scotland. As a Local Environmental Record Centre (LERC), TWIC currently holds over 4.5 million species records as well as extensive habitat and designated site information. Our programme of events supports new and existing recorders and stimulates interest in biological recording amongst the wider public. Growing awareness of the importance of data to guide responses to the biodiversity and climate crises means that this is an exciting time for biological recording, which provides vital information to improve understanding of the state of nature.

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage TWIC’s biological data holdings and mapping data using ArcGIS Pro, Recorder 6 and Microsoft Access databases
  • Service data requests from clients and supply GIS and data products to Service Level Agreement holders

  • Manage the TWIC website and contribute to TWIC’s social media platforms
  • Contribute to data flow between local, regional and national recording networks
