We are seeking a modelling scientist with a higher degree (or equivalent) in ecosystem service modelling approaches.

The scientist will work within UNEP-WCMC’s Science Programme which aims to enhance the scientific quality of the Centre’s work through novel research.

The role will focus on providing cutting edge and novel technical expertise in delivering and expanding our work on ecosystem service analysis and modelling. The main purpose of the job is to contribute to a programme of work focussed on the analysis and modelling of ecosystem services within mainly terrestrial ecosystems but experience within other realms is welcome. Research will span the three focal initiatives within Science (Nature Benefits, Nature Trends and Futures and Nature Synergies) and will also be relevant to a range of other Focal Initiatives in the Centre.

The post will play a role in the development of the Centre’s modelling capabilities. The post holder will be part of a modelling group and will be expected to develop new projects to grow our analytical and modelling skillset and establish the Centre at the forefront of these scientific contributions globally. The post holder will collaborate across the Centre to develop integrated approaches and outputs. It is expected that the scientist will lead the write-up of scientific papers and participate in scientific development.

Experience in ecosystem service modelling at global or national scales is essential alongside experience in the production of novel code and the ability to lead a research topic (with guidance from a senior researcher).

UNEP-WCMC attaches great importance to addressing safeguarding and ethical considerations in all activities carried out by its staff, including where partner organizations or individuals are part of the delivery of our work. This includes children and vulnerable adults in the community who may be vulnerable to abuse. WCMC acts with integrity, IS transparent and expects applicants to share the same values.
