Acres Wild Woodlands Ltd working for the Forestry Commission

Dorset, Hampshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Berkshire and Derbyshire

We have a number of full time self employed vacancies for a June start in our regional tree health survey teams. We survey woodlands and individual trees to locate OPM nests on behalf of the Forestry Commission, enabling the pest to be controlled and the trees conserved.

We offer full paid training and £140 a day initially, increasing on subsequent surveys. Our first training day is with the Forestry Commission on 26 May. We pay full mileage. We work full time Monday to Friday usually into September, with the possibility of extension, and typically have a winter survey starting again from mid January until mid April.

You will be joining a dedicated team of ecologists and woodland surveyors, many of whom have worked with us over several years. This is a good entry level position, offering valuable work experience for those looking to pursue ecological or forestry careers, and will also appeal to experienced ecologists available for seasonal work. Many previous surveyors, having gained survey experience with us have moved into successful permanent positions in Tree Health and related roles.

There is also the potential for work on our other surveys for the Forestry Commission, for example Sweet Chestnut Blight, Spruce Bark Beetle and also in helping assess new urban tree planting.

You will need to be physically fit, enjoy team work and be punctual and methodical in your approach to work. You should provide own binoculars, gps and smart phone and have a vehicle for work.

About Acres Wild Woodlands

Acres Wild Woodlands Ltd works throughout the UK on woodland and land based projects, aimed at increasing woodland cover and encouraging sustainable woodland management. The focus of much of our recent work in the last 8 years has been on supporting the Tree Health work of the Forestry Commission as lead contractor under a Plant Health Framework Contract, surveying for a number of pests and diseases currently threatening the UK woodland resource.
