About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Environment Co-ordinator to play a key role in delivering one of the Council’s key corporate priorities.

You will lead the development and delivery of a new corporate Environment Strategy. This is a key role at the heart of the Council’s response to driving action on carbon reduction, climate resilience and nature recovery across all Council services and delivering real on-the-ground projects that benefit our communities, environment and local economy. You will also play a vital role in the development of the Council’s new Local Plan, providing strategic advice to inform Local Plan policy.

You will be responsible for preparing, consulting on and finalising the Environment Strategy and associated Delivery Plan. This will build on the progress we’ve made on the implementation of projects designed to reduce the Council’s own carbon emissions, lower the energy bills of tenants, support local wildlife as well as helping our wider community with education and support.

You will provide expertise and professional advice to help the Council and its partners respond effectively to environmental challenges. You will coordinate climate mitigation and adaptation projects, working across multiple themes such as energy, buildings and retrofit, climate adaptation, land use and nature.

You will work closely with colleagues, councillors, communities, businesses, organisations and external partners, using evidence, data and analysis to help inform decision making, manage risk and secure funding for climate action.

About you

We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic and proactive environment professional to join our organisation and play a leading role in shaping the action of the Council.

You will have experience of working within the environmental sector with considerable project delivery experience and a track record of implementing successful environmental programmes. The team culture is that individuals take ownership and responsibility for their workload, so excellent communication skills, initiative and the ability to work under pressure are essential.

About us

Fareham Borough Council is a local authority for the area midway between Portsmouth and Southampton. Local Government services are split between Fareham Borough Council and Hampshire County Council.

The Borough has a highly diverse character. It contains a number of urban settlements of varying size with many surrounded by countryside. The Meon Valley runs north-south through the centre of the Borough with the River Hamble marking the western edge of the Borough. Much of the southern edge of the Borough adjoins The Solent, which contains a number of habitat sites of national and international importance’ whilst the South Downs adjoin the northeastern side of the Borough.

The Council has committed to becoming carbon neutral across all its operational buildings and services by 2030 to help tackle climate change. The Council published ‘Fareham’s Greener Future’ in March 2026 to highlight the Council’s efforts to preserve and improve Fareham’s lived-in environment. The Council has made significant progress in recent years with the implementation of projects designed to reduce the Council's own carbon emissions, as well as to lower the energy bills of its tenants, support the local wildlife and help the wider Fareham community with education and support.
