Do you love being outdoors, working with people, and making a positive difference to the environment?

Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. Afterhours Green Guardians is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to provide an innovative two-year evening volunteering programme designed to make conservation volunteering more accessible for working-age adults.

The Heart of England Forest is looking for an enthusiastic and practical Evening Session Facilitator to deliver our welcoming and inspiring evening volunteer sessions across the Forest. This is a fantastic opportunity to support people to connect with nature, learn new skills, and play a hands-on role in creating and caring for our Forest.

About the role

You’ll work closely with our Access and Volunteer team to deliver our popular evening volunteering sessions. From setting up activities and welcoming volunteers, to leading practical tasks and ensuring sessions run safely and smoothly, you’ll be at the heart of creating a positive volunteer experience.

No two evenings will be the same. One day you could be supporting habitat management, another you might be helping new volunteers feel confident using tools for the first time, all while enjoying our beautiful woodland surroundings.

What you’ll be doing

  • Facilitating engaging evening volunteering sessions outdoors
  • Welcoming and supporting volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Delivering simple safety briefings and practical guidance
  • Leading small volunteer groups in hands-on conservation activities
  • Preparing and packing away tools and equipment
  • Helping create an inclusive, friendly, and rewarding atmosphere

What we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you are:

  • Friendly, reliable, and enthusiastic
  • Confident working with people outdoors
  • Comfortable leading small groups and giving basic instructions
  • Practical and happy to get stuck in
  • Interested in conservation, volunteering, or community engagement
  • Aware of health and safety good practice
  • Able to travel to different Forest sites (you’ll need your own transport).

Experience using hand tools or supporting conservation activities would be an advantage, but attitude and enthusiasm are just as important.

The Heart of England Forest is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. Please note this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Applicants must be willing to undergo protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and an enhanced DBS disclosure.

Why join us?

  • 28 days annual leave, plus bank holidays, pro rata
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Life assurance and income protection
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Medical health cash plan
  • Opportunity to make a genuine environmental impact

If you’re passionate about people, nature, and creating meaningful volunteering experiences, we’d love to hear from you.
