We’re recruiting a Team Manager - Environment within the Environment and Waste Policy and Strategy Group to lead on the delivery of the Council’s Climate Resilience Delivery Plan. You will be working with colleagues across the organisation and with partners to help us achieve our environmental commitments. As well as having current technical knowledge, we’re looking for someone who works well with other people and can use their influence to get things done.

About the Role

You will be responsible for the development of strategies and policies for the environment and our changing climate as well as developing and delivering projects which help to deliver the Council’s environmental commitments.

You will manage a small, committed team delivering projects that contribute to meeting the aims of the Council’s Environment Strategy and Climate Resilience Delivery Plan.

You will be a self-starter who demonstrates our corporate values of positivity, flexibility, trust & respect, and openness & transparency.

This post is politically restricted therefore the post holder is disqualified from undertaking certain political activities under the Local Government Officers (Political Restrictions) Regulations 1990.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Have a degree in an appropriate subject (or equivalent work experience on a relevant environmental area) and evidence of continued learning and development and have knowledge of environmental management and climate change including legislative requirements.
  • Have experience of contributing to the development of polices and strategies to achieve the strategic outcomes of an organisation.
  • Have experience of managing staff and projects, delivering high performance through the setting of clear priorities, including managing budgets, risks and health and safety.
  • Have experience of working in partnership with key stakeholders (particularly at a senior and strategic level), building relationships based on trust and be able to connect with communities and localities through listening, dialogue and understanding community needs.
  • Have excellent communication and presentation skills including writing technical and non-technical reports for stakeholders, including senior managers and elected members.
  • Be able to work to tight timescales and agreed targets as part of a team and on own initiative.
