£33,000 to £35,000 pa (dependent on skills and experience)

Surrey Wildlife Trust (SWT) is looking for an Operations Manager to play a critical role in the ongoing development of Surrey Biodiversity Information Centre (SBIC).

We need an individual who can manage and motivate a small team, develop critical partnerships to extend our recording network across Surrey, maintain service delivery and work systematically to achieve the objectives of the SBIC Business Plan currently under development.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of SBIC, supporting the SBIC Strategic Lead in achieving and maintaining the status of SBIC as an accredited Local Environmental Records Centre (LERC). SBIC is a member of the Association of Local Environmental Records Centres (ALERC).

Biodiversity records lie at the heart of nature conservation and this post offers the successful applicant an opportunity to make a real contribution to conserving the biodiversity of Surrey for future generations.

A relevant environmental qualification is essential together with a professional background in nature conservation, supervisory or team management skills plus knowledge and experience of the work of a local environmental records centre. You should be able to demonstrate excellent administration and organisational skills, be enthusiastic and self motivated, with an ability to work systematically either as an individual or as part of a team, with thorough attention to detail.

Our offices are in Pirbright and near Leatherhead; our hybrid working policy aims to provide a good work/life balance which can incorporate partial home working whilst having an interesting working environment. The salary offered to successful applicants will form part of a benefits package including: above minimum pension contributions, life assurance of 4 x salary, employee support scheme, 22 days holiday, flexible / hybrid working policy.

The full job profile and an application form are available on our website. If you have any questions, please contact Alistair Kirk, the SBIC Strategic Lead at [email protected]. We are recruiting two other roles within the auspices of SBIC, full details are on the website.

The deadline for applications is midday Wednesday 29th July 2026. Interviews will be held week commencing 10th August 2026.

We are committed to having an inclusive and diverse workplace and encourage applications from backgrounds which may be underrepresented in our sector, including people from minority ethnic backgrounds and people with disabilities. Please let us know if you require any adjustment to make our recruitment process more accessible.
