Salary: £32,597 - £34,434 (2026-27 pay award pending) + Local Weighting and 5% loyalty bonus after 3 years’ service
We're seeking a passionate and experienced Environment and Sustainability Officer to lead Hertford Town Council's ambitious environmental initiatives. This role will play a crucial part in helping us achieve our carbon net-zero target by 2030 and create a more sustainable future for our historic town.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading the delivery of the Council's Environmental Sustainability Strategy and associated action plans
- Managing and implementing environmental projects to enhance biodiversity and reduce carbon emissions
- Securing grant funding for green initiatives benefiting Hertford and its residents
- Coordinating the annual Eco-Fest event and other community environmental programmes
- Building partnerships with local stakeholders, neighbouring councils, and environmental organisations
- Leading community engagement and communications on environmental initiatives
- Providing expert guidance on sustainable practices across Council operations
Do you have:
- Degree level qualification or equivalent experience in environmental sustainability or related discipline
- Proven track record of delivering climate and nature projects
- Confidence in delivering community engagement and partnership building
- Strong understanding of climate and nature challenges in local communities
- Excellent IT, communication, and organisational skills
