About the role

This role is offered at 35 hours per week, for a 7-month fixed term contract. Core hours to be agreed to match the requirements of the service delivery and to suit the availability of the right candidate. Some flexibility will be required around these core hours with time off in lieu available for hours worked outside core hours.

The primary requirement of the role is to lead community environmental activities at the area of Howden and St John's hospital. This will involve preparing resources/materials, planning practical tasks, and providing training/ guidance to local volunteers, patients and staff at St John's hospital. The aim of the project is to provide training to residents to build skills and confidence in identifying species, habitat management, and gardening sessions. These will be run with a wide range of participants including families, schools, and volunteers from the community.

Applicants should have experience of community growing activities, delivering training and delivering practical sessions with a wide range of participants. Other elements of the role will include, but not be limited to -

  • Health and safety management, including producing risk assessments.
  • Quantifying and ordering materials in line with procurement policies.
  • Managing TCV's local resources, including the office, tools, and vehicles.
  • Assisting with controlling the project budgets.
  • Engaging with appropriate local groups and partners.
  • Using online and offline materials to promote TCV's work to new partners and individuals.

Experience

Applicants should have experience of practical horticulture and environmental work. Experience and understanding of working with volunteers and community involvement is essential.

To fulfil the role, you must be resident in the UK and have the right to work in the UK.
