Assistant Manager - Scotland

Contract type: Fixed-term for 24 months
Hours: Part-time (18.75 hrs/week), flexible working arrangements available
Salary: £21,154.69 (£42,309.38 FTE)
Location: Hybrid – based in Scotland, with occasional travel to meetings, events and other locations as required.

About the Role

We’re looking for a passionate conservation professional with knowledge of and a strong interest in terrestrial invertebrates to join our Conservation team as Assistant Manager on a part-time basis.

Working alongside the Country Manager and our existing Assistant Manager, you’ll help lead and support our Conservation Officers and volunteers, oversee conservation projects, develop partnerships and contribute to project development, support exploration of new fundraising opportunities.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in delivering Buglife’s conservation priorities, advocating for invertebrates and helping to restore and protect the habitats they depend on. The role also provides opportunities to represent Buglife externally and contribute to our wider advocacy and nature recovery work.

Key Responsibilities

• Line-manage and support Conservation Officers, ensuring that staff can work effectively, and that projects are delivered to a high standard.
• Plan, monitor, control and maintain effective financial records for designated budgets.
• Support Conservation Officers to manage their project budgets and ensure that all funding claims and reports are submitted on time and to the expected standard.
• Support the Country Manager to advocate for invertebrates and their conservation, ensuring a consistent message is delivered, and including the development of policies which facilitate nature recovery.
• Act as a strong team member internally and externally to deliver against the Buglife strategy.
• Develop and maintain effective external partnerships, with other NGOs and local stakeholders.
• Develop new projects and prepare fundraising applications, with support from others, for a range of opportunities aligned to the organisational strategy and full cost recovery principles.
• Support the growth and sustainability of Buglife by contributing to improving internal processes/ inputting to relevant internal focus groups and meetings.
• Represent the organisation at external meetings, preparing and delivering presentations, effectively communicating our charitable aims and objectives.
• Prepare media releases and give media interviews when requested, and support conservation officers to do the same.
• Manage the Health and Safety of self and any direct reports, volunteers, or other relevant individuals.
• Comply with legislation related to wildlife and the operation of charities and businesses and adhere to internal policies.
