We are looking for a capable and friendly professional who can help articulate and solve complex strategic questions, exercise judgement and independently deliver excellent work.

You will have the opportunity to work across a mix of projects and clients, with a focus on developing philanthropic fundraising strategies for the climate sector. Tasks will include researching and prioritising funders, synthesising evidence, developing cases for support and helping philanthropic funders answer complex strategic questions. Contract type: Twelve-month fixed-term contract (potential to extend).

Location: Remote / flexible – we welcome applications from candidates based in or outside the UK, provided these is sufficient working-day overlap with London. Some in-person working may be required.

Working pattern: Flexible. We are open to full- or part-time working.

Reports to: Director

Salary: £48-58k (pro rata), depending on experience. For candidates based outside the UK, salary and employment arrangements will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions and country-specific requirements.

Key responsibilities of the Philanthropy & Strategy Manager

  • Own and deliver substantial elements of consulting projects, with a significant proportion of work focused on fundraising strategy, funder research and prospecting in climate philanthropy.
  • Independently conduct and synthesise research across varied subject areas relevant to climate and philanthropy, identifying insights and translating them into clear recommendations.
  • Liaise with clients and project manage contracts, anticipating challenges and proposing solutions.
  • Produce high-quality client-ready outputs, turning complex information into clear, concise recommendations, strategies and communications.
  • Lead and/or contribute to meetings with clients, freelancers and other stakeholders.
  • Exercise judgement, identify issues proactively and seek Director input where appropriate.
  • Contribute positively to the growth and culture of CGC.

Person specification - experience and skills

  • Evidence that you care about climate change and have a desire to increase the impact of organisations working on the issue nationally, regionally and globally.
  • Relevant professional experience in climate, philanthropy, fundraising, strategy, consulting and/or the non-profit sector.
  • Experience of fundraising, donor research/prospecting, donor engagement and/or working with philanthropic funders. You should be genuinely interested in fundraising work rather than seeing it as incidental to the role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear outputs for a range of audiences.
  • Excellent analytical and research skills, including the ability to get to grips quickly with unfamiliar topics.
  • Sound judgement and confidence in making decisions about how to approach a piece of work, while recognising when to seek input or challenge.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise, manage ambiguity and work across multiple workstreams.
  • Confidence using digital tools, including the appropriate use of AI tools, to research, analyse and deliver work efficiently and responsibly.
