Two Moors Way Project Officer

Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Fixed term to March 2028, employed by Dartmoor Futures and seconded to Dartmoor National Park Authority
Location: Regular work across Dartmoor, with office and home working by agreement
Anticipated start date: October 2026

Help shape the future of one of Dartmoor’s most important walking routes

Dartmoor Futures is seeking a practical, organised and collaborative Project Officer to help deliver an exciting programme of improvements to the Dartmoor section of the Two Moors Way.

The Two Moors Way is a long-distance walking route linking the south and north coasts of Devon through Dartmoor and Exmoor. This project will deliver targeted improvements to the Dartmoor section of the route, including infrastructure, signage, route quality and opportunities for volunteers to contribute to its future care.

Working in partnership with Dartmoor National Park Authority, the postholder will help coordinate practical works, engage with landowners and partners, support project monitoring and communications, and contribute to a wider vision for what a high-quality 21st Century Trail could look like on Dartmoor.

The project will also explore the idea of regenerative recreation: how people enjoying Dartmoor can contribute positively to its landscape, communities, businesses and long-term future.

About the role

You will be employed by Dartmoor Futures and seconded to Dartmoor National Park Authority for day-to-day delivery of the project. You will work closely with DNPA officers, rangers and specialist teams, alongside partners including the Two Moors Way Association, Exmoor National Park Authority, Devon County Council, landowners, contractors and volunteers.

Your work will include:

• coordinating a prioritised programme of route improvements;
• supporting site surveys, permissions, planning and delivery of practical works;
• helping develop a vision and delivery framework for the route;
• supporting volunteer opportunities and stakeholder engagement;
• contributing to budget monitoring, reporting and communications;
• supporting the development of a regenerative recreation model for Dartmoor.

About you

We are looking for someone with relevant experience in countryside, access, recreation, trails or environmental project delivery. You will be comfortable working independently, managing practical projects, building relationships and spending time out on Dartmoor as well as preparing plans, records and reports.

You will have a good understanding of access and rights of way issues, strong organisational and communication skills, and an ability to work constructively with a range of people and interests.

Experience of Dartmoor, long-distance trails, GIS, volunteer involvement, funding bids or regenerative recreation would be an advantage.
