Pension: Contribution Scheme with NEST.
Hours: 35 hours per week (negotiable) (1 FTE)
Holiday: 33 days per calendar year
Location: The Ecology Centre, Kinghorn, Fife and travel to other areas in Fife, East Lothian, and Edinburgh

The Ecology Centre

The Ecology Centre is a thriving and inclusive, community-led environmental charity based at Kinghorn Loch in Fife. For over 25 years, we have helped people connect with nature, with each other and with practical ways to care for the environment. Our work combines outdoor learning, volunteering, wellbeing support, community gardening, the Tool Shed, and practical environmental action.

Restoration Forth

Restoration Forth is a WWF-UK-led partnership bringing together communities, organisations, researchers and volunteers to restore coastal habitats across the Firth of Forth and build stronger connections between people and the sea. The Ecology Centre has been involved in Restoration Forth since its first phase, delivering community-centred conservation and citizen science activities including seagrass monitoring and restoration. The next phase of the programme will explore opportunities to restore a wider range of coastal habitats, including sand dunes, seagrass, native oysters, blue mussels and saltmarsh as well as exploring the potential for community

Purpose of role:

As the Restoration Officer, you will work collaboratively with partners, volunteers, stakeholders and community groups as part of the Restoration Forth project, to deliver restoration and connect people along the Firth of Forth with the marine and coastal environment. The postholder regularly works with other members of the Restoration Forth team to help ensure alignment of restoration, engagements and communications between project partners.

The Restoration Officer will work on behalf of the Ecology Centre to deliver inclusive educational, outreach and conservation activities throughout Fife as part of the Restoration Forth project.

The Restoration Officer will work directly and indirectly with primary and secondary schools, local community groups, volunteers, and stakeholders to deliver activities that encourage marine conservation learning and participation through volunteering, citizen science, online learning and public events.

Activities will include guided walks and talks, seagrass spotting, bioblitzes, environmental monitoring, beach cleans, heritage investigation, art and crafts projects, snorkel sessions. All activities will be coordinated and aligned with Restoration Forth project partners, to ensure complimentary activities across the community hubs involved in the project, delivering positive change for local people and the natural environment.

This is a fixed term contract until 31/01/2028.
