Policy & Campaigning

Prospectus are excited to partner with Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), in their search for a Head of Campaigns – Landscapes and Land Use. As they enter an exciting new chapter, this newly created role will play a pivotal role in strengthening their campaigning capability and shaping some of the most important national and regional debates about how we use our finite supply of land in joined up, sustainable ways.

Working closely with colleagues across the charity, CPRE’s England wide network and external partners and allies, you'll help to drive CPRE's ambitious campaigning agenda. This role will collaborate with the also newly created Head of Campaigns – Planning and Infrastructure. While each role leads a distinct portfolio, together they will deliver CPRE's strategic goals for a more joined-up approach to land, ensuring decisions about housing, infrastructure, food production, nature, climate and landscapes are no longer made in isolation, through campaigns that connect people, influence policy and create lasting change.

This is not a traditional policy role. We're looking for someone who understands that meaningful change happens when strong evidence is combined with compelling public engagement, powerful partnerships and effective influencing. Someone who can connect people, ideas and organisations around a shared vision for the future of our landscapes, building CPRE’s movement and creating pressure for change.

As Head of Campaigns, Landscapes and Land Use, you will lead ambitious national campaigns and policy communications that influence change and help people understand why decisions about all kinds of land use should be better connected and matter, and how they shape the future of the countryside we all depend on.

You will be able to demonstrate significant experience leading public campaigns, advocacy programmes, external affairs or influencing work, with a solid understanding of the political environment surrounding land use. You’ll have experience working with stakeholders, decision-makers and influencers at senior levels, developing strong relationships, with a track record of building partnerships and coalitions that achieve meaningful outcomes. You’ll have excellent strategic thinking and be able to evidence the ability to translate complex issues into compelling public campaigns.

A strong understanding of the policy context within the areas of landscapes, land use, climate, nature, agriculture, or environment is crucial for this role, and we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with backgrounds in environmental campaigning, climate action, nature recovery, land management, agriculture, or countryside policy.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading CPRE's landscapes and land use campaigning strategy and delivery at a national level.
  • Working across CPRE’s network to develop impactful campaigns and projects that influence policy, public debate and grow supporter engagement.
  • Building external relationships and partnerships with policymakers, politicians, campaign partners, and sector stakeholders to create opportunities for impact.
  • Collaborating with fundraising colleagues to develop projects and funding opportunities that demonstrate solutions and strengthen campaigning objectives.
  • Acting as a senior spokesperson for CPRE in influential external forums, in the media and leading coalition work.
  • Leading and developing team members and helping create a collaborative, high-performing culture.
